I'm so torn as to what to do with my Esprit.
I got a dedicated track car last year and now that takes up most of my free driving time.
Kid will be on the way soon, not that its a deal-breaker, just see myself using it less and less.

If I was to sell, I need to make sure it stays in the Lotus community.
Its a pristine 2003 Black on Black with 4200 miles, and has been running flawlessly in my ownership.

Any words of wisdom?

I suppose the question is this - will you own it forever if you don't sell it right now or is it just a matter of time? If it's just a matter of time and you're not enjoying the car right now then go ahead and sell it so you can maximize what you get out of it. That said if you can own it indefinitely that's a pretty special car you have there and probably something you will regret selling.

Most of that just comes down to you. You know how much you'll actually miss it - and if you do sell it some days you won't miss it at all and some days it'll kill you that it's gone. I sold my RS4 last year and sorta knew I wouldn't miss it and guess what, I really don't. Every now and then I pine for the huge exhaust note it had but other than that it was just a car to me. It will kill me if I ever have to sell my Exige as I bought it planning (hoping) to own it the rest of my life.

And if you do sell it - like you said be sure it goes to a community member. I wish I had the means at the moment as I'd love a late model black Esprit. Either way how about some picture porn for us?!?!?!

In the end my advice:

DON'T SELL IT

Your assessment is pretty dead on. I'm strange, I usually miss all of my cars for one reason or another but the Esprit was a car I wanted since I was a kid. I just hate leaving such a beautiful and rare car sitting in the garage, I do prefer to see them out there for the world to enjoy.

Here are some pics I had handy for the car porn enthusiasts.
Enjoy

First thanks for the porn. Second DO NOT SELL THAT CAR. Seriously that's probably the best looking Esprit I've ever seen. If I did have the means I'd be making you an offer on it right now. Wow, seriously cool car.

Do

Words of wisdom? How about two....gorgeous....(simply) gorgeous....

What's your track car? The Esprit, being a GT, is simply a different thing entirely. It sounds like you need to take some trips in it (4200 miles?) and enjoy B roads/country roads...and then enjoy your track car for the pucker factor which only comes from and early turn-in to a very fast corner.

If you are able, both cars have their purposes and delights. It just sounds as though you need to enjoy the Esprit more often and let that make your decision.

The car is beautiful.....let me know if you want to sell it, and I shall mourn your loss.

I do enjoy it, and I do drive it fairly aggressively. I leave in Los Angeles near one of the greatest roads in the country called Angeles Crest ( Route 2 )
It's two things really, I have found that the track gives you the ability to push without the concern of harm to the car and harm to yourself or others also having a car that beautiful you are always concerned about any damage. I know that's part of the package and cant be avoided.

And Stephen if interested let me know as I stated I'm open to the idea of selling especially in the Lotus community and would be realistic about a sale price.

If storage space is what you need I will gladly donate my garage for your use. I too am in Cali. You have to leave the keys in case I need to move it from time to time. :D

Nice Car!

My scenario is almost a mirror of yours.....so please take my advice!!

Wanted an Esprit since I was a kid, and even kept a calendar pic up of an S4s in my room until I bought one. I have owned my S4s for about 11 years now. I have done some great traveling with this car, and have built many lasting memories.

It has seen the drives to the following LOG's....St. Louis, Texas, Indy, Birmingham, Gettysburg, Corning; as well as the Tail of the Dragon, the Blue Ridge Mountains, back roads where the GPS doesn't calculate, and driven on highways that my favorite singers talk about in their music... talk about feeling alive!! When you have connected with a car like I have, it is hard to let it go.

My family has grown where I don't use it as much either. Fiscally it's the right thing for me to sell, esp. since I am trying to expand my family unit further. It's now up for sale, and whenever I get an inquiry, I get sad, because I know of the potential that the car may go.

If you can afford to keep the car, and only use the Esprit on those special occasions when you have the time, you will miss them if the car was not there. With 4200 miles, I don't know how much you have truly connected with the car, so it may be easier to let go. For me.....it's one of the toughest things I have had to do.

Bottom Line...if you don't need the money, I would keep it in the stable.

Hope this helps......
