Passenger airbag cannot be deactivated

I see in the order guide posted by Transo (thanks!) that the passenger airbag cannot be deactivated. I know the seat is fixed, so what is the deal with small children. My kids will be disappointed if they can't go for rides! Mine are 8 and 11 so they don't need a rear facing car seat. Can someone find out if it is OK for kids in the passenger seat?

judgement call

I have a 9 year old and 7 year old and they ride in the front seat of any car I have.....(my truck automatically shuts off the airbag, but my other cars don't).

They have to stay in their seat belt...... I think they are just fine. I think the few kids that got killed and the bunch that got injured were all either in the backwards facing seats, or were not restrained....

I just had a passenger side airbag switch installed today. I'll try to post pictures and details tomorrow.

Anyway the real airbag risk is if a child is leaned forward due to a crash as the airbag is deployed. If the child is short enough and leaned forward enough the airbag will hit only the top of their forehead and snap their neck.
I would have thought the fixed passenger seat would be a plus, since the seat would be far enough away that a child would proabably never even touch the airbag if he/she was wearing the seat belt.

Where was the work done? I assume Lotus dealers won't do this? Heck, I'm surprised that ANY shop will do that due to liability reasons.
