It was 5 posts. You can PM now...

You need to wait a few minutes after the 5th post for the last post to become "set" (for want of a better term). Like, if you edit a post, it won't say "Edited at x:00 PM, Reason, IMPATIENT" for a few minutes.

As a mod on another Autoguide forum, I can tell you that the alternative is 10 new users and 30 posts a day that the Mods need to delete, ugh. Most of them try to get you to click on bootleg movie links (or viruses).

Yeah, I just came back to this thread to say "oops! user error..." My humbled apologies, as it worked fine after 5 posts. I just wasn't doing it right! Thx.

I agree with the others, but understand why this is in place. As someone who lurks more than posts while I try to buy an Exige, accumulating posts is now a goal I have just to PM sellers.

5 posts is really nothing. I could understand if it was like 20 posts or 25, but 5 posts is literally nothing. People could go to the welcome section and welcome a few people and be good to go. Since we have introduced it, it has helped keep scammers from PM'ing people.

the post count rule is definitely a good thing for increased forum safety in general even if its inconvenient for new members...

chances are those that are posting here asking about the rule aren't the members lotustalk is trying to inconvenience... but unfortunately are forced to abide till the count limit is reached

iirc one of the previous forums I was on had a 10 or 20 post rule on top of having to be a member for a set amount of time (i think a month?)... it was a 1 or the other kinda thing but enforced for the same reasoning

in the end of the day it really does make it harder for a casual scammer to do so which is ultimately what the site is trying to stop from happening.

its a positive rule, & also encourages new legit members to become apart of the community before trying to do business in the marketplace. heading over to the local region sub-forum & introducing yourself is a good way to get meaningful posts to increase the limit in order to benefit from perks in the marketplace (which should be looked at as a privilege & not a right when registering for a community of any type) & it makes for a potentially stronger knowledge base & closer community in general that will keep a site like this relevant for years to come. this place has a lot to offer outside of just selling & buying.

its good to see more active members on the site though, so welcome aboard.

I say a 5 post rule AND a $5 fee before you are allowed to PM! If $5 bothers you then good night and good riddance.

Who's up for just the 5 post rule now?

So rennlist requires that you are a paid member to post for sale ads, even though I had thousands of posts over the years. I paid the $15 for a year's membership, posted a sale ad for a set of 3 Fuchs I had in the attic unused for 15 years, and sold them for an hour later.

The minimum post rule is good. I think five is too low, but my opinion doesn't really matter because the person who owns the site makes the rules. I just abide by them and enjoy my time here.

However, as I notice on most car forums, there are many users selling parts and services who never make a donation. The help that I have gotten from many members here has saved me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars with my Esprit. I've also been able to purchase parts that I would never have found if it weren't for LT. That is why when I first joined I paid for the "LIFETIME" membership to help support the site.
