Read a recent article in the local newspaper about sales numbers for various auto manufacturers in 2006 and 2007. The Lotus numbers for NE Ohio were:
2006 - 21 Lotus
2007 - 11 Lotus
The decline is one of the largest percentage declines listed among the many different auto manufacturers. Overall new car sales were up slightly in 2007.

My dealer told me that production was greatly reduced to around 400 Elises and slightly more Exige S's at 450. Since they over-produced Exige S's, that's why there are still so many around. I assume this is in the U.S.
Production of Elises was reduced to keep resale and exclusivity higher.
I just happened to be pulling some registration numbers today and I added Lotus into the mix for fun. Here's the latest registration data I found. (Please note that this database counts anything registered after Oct. 1st as a new model year car.)
Rat27, Thanks for the numbers! Are these all "first registrations" or do they include transfers, i.e. used car sales? Also, there wouldn't happen to be a segmentation by color, would there?
If you got an 05 Elise before 10/1/04 it shows as a 2004 according to the way the stats are posted. I got my car on 10/7/2004 so it shows as a 2005.
My car was serial number 302 but came in late to port along with some other cars on the east coast due to the hurricanes at the time and I think the 2005models started with serial number 26, so 196 between Chris getting the first one in July and everyone else from then until to October seems right.
Ummm ok ChrisB but then what is this 07 Exige and 07 Exige S.
I would think if I bought a car that is titled/registered as a particular model year it would be listed as such - not based on the technical date I took delivery.
I am reviving this old thread and was hoping someone might have U.S. figures for Elise / Exige up to the end (2011 MY). When we left off with this thread, the 2008 figures were just coming in from Oct. 2007 to Jan. 2008, hardly a full year.
I got my Provence Certificate from LotusCars, http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f3/certificate-vehicle-provence-report-111111/ and it let me know (for an extra fee) what production numbers for the 2010 S260 were and what number mine was in the queue. Not only that, but how many were delivered to Canada and into the States.
Yes, it's a great service provided by Lotus, for a fee of course, but well worth it. BTW, how many S260's were made in 2010 for the North American market?
According to my Certificate of Provenance from Lotus, there were 164 Exige S240 and 20 Exige S Club Racers built for North Anerica in 2008.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
