.........."the carmaker should not sell ailing British arm Lotus group but must aim to cut cost and improve quality and technology to be competitive. Would not advise sale of Lotus unless it is hemorrhaging very badly." With regard to adding a partner he said, "a (limited) partner was crucial because we cannot come up with sufficient technology ourselves."
(Recent statements made on 5/2/04 by ex-malaysian Premiere, and Proton advisor, Mahathir Mohamed).

Hmmmm...

"we cannot come up with sufficient technology ourselves" was the reason that Proton bought Lotus in the first place. Not for car manufacturing, but for the Engineering capability, of which Lotus has done a lot of for Proton...
