I just received the latest issue of Racecar Engineering, and there's a good article on ground effects and DF... I hope it's legible at the size I scanned in...

Best,

Phil

That was absolutely a bit of engineering porn!

Thanks Phil!

BTW, does anyone have a CAD file of outer (class A and under-belly) surface of the Elise which they would be willing to share?

It would be interesting to run a CFD, and possibly play around with aero mod ideas.

If you wanna experiment with vortex generators and don't feel like fabbing your own, you can probably cutup the Evo ones to the size you need and see how it works for experimental purposes. Costs around $90 or cheaper for the part:

Here's a very detailed analysis of vortex generators by some physics geek at Mitsubishi:

Research on Aerodynamic Drag Reduction by Vortex Generators
http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/corporate/about_us/technology/review/e/pdf/2004/16E_03.pdf

Abstract
One of the main causes of aerodynamic drag for sedan vehicles is the separation of flow near
the vehicle’s rear end. To delay flow separation, bump-shaped vortex generators are tested for
application to the roof end of a sedan. Commonly used on aircraft to prevent flow separation, vortex
generators themselves create drag, but they also reduce drag by preventing flow separation at
downstream. The overall effect of vortex generators can be calculated by totaling the positive and
negative effects. Since this effect depends on the shape and size of vortex generators, those on
the vehicle roof are optimized. This paper presents the optimization result, the effect of vortex
generators in the flow field and the mechanism by which these effects take place.

>>Phil,

Can we see a new Wing and Diffuser from you based on this?
<<<

Diffuser, yes... That's been on the drawing board for a while, just haven't gotten to it yet:panic:...

Best,

Phil
