There is way too much back and forth about being able to do the recall with the clam on or off. I was doing the a/c drain hole TSB this afternoon, and while I was under there I decided to take off the front access undertray and take pics. I think there are 10 8mm bolts that hold the front tray on, after you pull it, you can see the complete front cooler line:

Passenger side

Close up passenger side (Notice the horn, if this is the only one, I'm not sure why people wait til the clam is off to change it. It would be incredibly easy to change)

Driver side (yes you can see the damage to the lower portion of my front clam in this pic)

Passenger side a little further back

My a/c drain holes

Now, if the oil coolers have to be replaced, the clam would most definitely have to come off. But if all goes smoothly, it is possible to do it with the clam on.

Interesting pictures, thanks for posting.

For those with a 2009 Elise, the horn is even easier to access. If you remove the black front grille, it is visible and accessible inside there.

Seeing the fittings is one thing. Removing is another. I guess with the right tools and ability to contort your arms it can be done. I was unable to get a wrench on the cooler and on the line and break the threads free.

That looks like the crossover hose? I thought the fittings on the lines leading up to, and away from the coolers need attention?
Yes, well both actually. The crossover hose gets replaced as a pre assembled unit, but the hose end fittings get replaced on the two lines that run front to back.

oil lines

Your right, We install our lines all the time. You have to be careful with the aluminum threads on the oil coolers, we have yet had to replace a oil cooler during an oil line replacement.

You also can't see the whole fifth panel. There are two others, they are just in the exact same spot on the 5th panel.

I think the one of the reasons they pull the clam is during unscrewing the lines from the oil coolers, there are times the threads get striped and the oil cooler is replaced. one of mine was replaced due to this.
