My trunk hatch is in a bad shape and needs replacement. My car is aubergine (purple for the normies), so my knee-jerk reaction is the GRP carbon fibre replacement. But I'm worried about transferring the locking mechanism, and would also be happy with a stock trunk lid replacement too.

Options I can think of:
  • Somehow find a salvage aubergine trunk hatch
  • Buy the GRP hatch and hope it goes okay
  • Get my current one repaired, however it has enough small cosmetic damage to make this kind of a waste
  • Find an unpainted one, find the matching paint, and hope someone can't paint it properly because I can't
Thanks for your help!

I have a grey one if you go down that road.

How bad is the damage, exactly? If you go the salvage route, you're probably looking at a repaint anyway.

Maybe do a wrap on the lid with faux carbon-fiber vinyl?

Good luck with it, whatever your course.

Thanks for the reply.

The cosmetic damage is not that bad, however, the right arm that attaches the trunk to the body was cross threaded by the shop and basically destroyed. So the trunk lid is only held on by one side.

Is the molded-in boss, where the hinge attaches, still intact? If so, I'd try to find a stud close to that size (instead of a bolt) and epoxy it in place...then secure with a nut. A pretty easy fix.

Sounds like the shop needs to buy you a new trunk hatch.
