Below is the very first Elise I ever drove. It's a 1999 BRG Series 1 Elise with the old Rover motor that made about 120HP. I drove it down in Australia. Having just driven Princetons demo this week, I can attest that that the new Federal Series 2 Elise is heads and shoulders above the old Series 1 all around. It is by fare the best Elise ever!!!!

I am not ragging on the old S1 Elise at all. Our Fed car is an evolution from it and I respect where it came from. All I am saying is the our Fed Car is the best Elise yet and we should all be proud of it.

Best Wishes,
Mitch

Mitch, interesting story.
I would still buy the S2 I drove with the meager 120hp, albeit at a lower price. Somehow I really enjoyed the sounds that gearbox made, the way the clutch engaged with your foot closer to the floor, and the special lightning yellow color. It really wanted to rev. The brakes were surprising too.

I recently saw it again in Temecula, courtesy of Christine. Originally drove it at Symbolic Motors with MP. Here's Shinoo trying it out with M. Wedgie sitting passenger and thinking how to steal it.

You really need to drive one of these.....

It might make you change your mind.

FYI - This is my friend's S1 Elise 190S. 190hp and it weighs 1550lbs - that's 400lbs lighter than the new car.

This is the first Elise that I ever drove. It is awesome. Led me to get this as you know.....

My first Elise drive was in the silver 111s that made the rounds a year or so ago. The brakes took some getting used to, but everything else felt so natural. It reminded me of my MR2 in a way - similar size, similar behavior - but everything was so, so much BETTER in the Elise. Heck, even the ride was smoother than my MR2, yet handling improved. It was a fantastic car, with a powerfull presence, even when sitting still.

i too drove this car and i also would buy the Elise even if it had 120 hp for the same reasons as Vantage. Except that my first drive of this car was at Scottsdale Lotus with Dan. I like lighting yellow better than Saffron. way better...

Guys, Guys, slow down I'm not dissing the old S1 and S2 Elises. All I am trying to say is that the new Fed Elise with the Toyota power is the best Elise ever. I just test drove one this week.

Don't beleive me, just go down to your dealer and test drive it!!

I too had lots of fun in that 120HP series 1 Elise, but I have to confess I like the Fed one better:)

Best Wishes,
Mitch

I drive a 111s last summer, and the Fed just recently.

Even though I didn't think it was possible, Lotus has made the best even better. Thanks, Lotus! :D
