Someone has done this? Any downsides?

I have done this but I haven't tuned for the cams and I haven't dyno'd the car with them. I'm pretty useless. I simply installed them because I was tired of wiping intake lobes on the stock cams. My Pipers are holding up perfectly.

I have noticed a slight bog at throttle tip in. I hope tuning will correct this. I'm waiting for the 08 computer to be cracked.

Ah thanks already for this info. What gains are to be expected, when properly tuned?

I haven't worked much with the stage 2 cams. Stage 3s work well with a blower but require totally different tune.

It's lot of work to do right, as the springs need to be replaced as well. The valves are a known weak link in the head and I think you're asking for trouble to put a big lift cam on stock valves... Pulling the head to replace the valves is a slippery slope, as you'll then want to port the head... and since the motor is out, replace the pistons... since you replace the pistons, lower the comp. Since the comp is lower, raise the boost... since the boost is higher, add an intercooler (rev400).... since you added the rev400, add a clutch.... since you added a clutch, perhaps you swap the 3/4 gears in the box.... since you added the 3/4 gears in the box, you add an LSD.... since you added an LSD, you redo your suspension geometry.... hehehehe

I'm currently running a Rev250, making ~280 hp, and I am waiting on a ported head with Ferrea components from Jim Clayton. It should be ready in a week or two. It's also going to have stage 3 cams and a new tune from Phil. I'm going to dyno it once the new cams are broken in. I'll post the results.

Phil,

With the stage3 cams, what are the gains with your tune? And are there some downsizes too?
