So last weekend was bright and sunny up here in the Great White North, at least in Toronto. The new Bridgestones were sitting in the corner of the garage, the Letsla was installed, the snow and salt were gone - so there was no excuse not to get on the road. A quick call to the insurance company to reactivate collision insurance ($235 until October - not bad) and we're ready to go.
First to get the car retrieved from the back of the garage and down off the wheel dollies...disconnect the battery tender...take the rags out of the exhaust... hit the starter button...varroom!!! All good.
Phone the local custom tire store - $100 to fit and balance the tires. Drop them off in the Mini, back to collect the Elise and then a pleasant hour with some car guys as they fit the RE01R's.
Return home, tinkering around the engine bay and....arrgh....suddenly the engine starts making a loud ticking sound from the cam area. Visions of cam/rocker meltdown. Cancel all driving plans for the weekend and slouch around in a state of depression all weekend, only slightly relieved by Spurs (the UK soccer variety) beating Aston Villa 2-1. At least the warranty is still in effect, if only until May.
Call the dealer on Monday and arrange to take the car in today and also fix a couple of minor warranty issues at the same time. Should I drive it in? Just take it gently I guess.
Long day on Tuesday, but receive a call from the service manager. Long story short - they can't find anything wrong (TADS?), have re-charged the a/c but that's it. Hmmmmm....
So - off to pick the car up and guess what? No more ticking noise!! I guess the car just needed a decent run after 4 months hibernation. Much relieved and a great drive home, if any drive on the 401 can be considered great. At least the a/c is working properly.
Moral of the story? - not sure...always look on the bright side of life????:coolnana:
