Just about yo replace tatty chrome capping thingy on roof before painting. It looks a bastard job. Anyone done it successfully or just removed and replaced with door trim??

I removed the trim on my black '83 and extended the roof to fill the gap between the top and the capping rail. Looks much tidier.

The PO of my 82 filled the gap with a kind like black Sikaflex.
Done properly, and it looks nice.

I did it last year, absolute pig of a job, the car was built around the trim. You need a heat gun to carefully bend the trim to shape. Also get some Clecos to hold in place to make sure it fits correctly before you commit to rivets. It does look much better when finished.
