Saw This At Dealership....

So, on the advice of our resident McLaren owner 'Choatie', I stopped in at Lake Forest Sports Cars today. And I saw these - TWO McLaren P1 - one in black and one in a maroon color. Pics really don't do them justice. The black just looks evil.

They also had 3 of the new 650S Spyders (two McLaren orange and one white).

Oh and for the Chicago guys - ran into Kurrum there. He was there checking out the 650S. He's thinking about replacing his 458 with one.

Lastly, Adam Mancuso told us that both owners are local to Chicago and the owner of the black one ALSO ordered a McLaren orange one. He ALSO ordered a LaFerrari AND a 918 Spyder. Um, yeah, the dude is ballin'.

And the F40 that's been there a while - boring by these cars standards. :)

Ok, off to play the lottery.

@ Gray - dude, you gotta go there with your fancy pants camera and take some proper pis of these glorious machines!
My wife just said, "Why don't you just get a McLaren logo and put it on your Lotus?"

She has a great sense of humor...
Id still take the f40 over any of those macs.......its fast enough and cooler.
^^^^^
This.
I like both. Perhaps it's because I've seen it so many times, but the f40 just looks dated

The p1, while awesome, doesn't really look like $1.25m
to me though.

What really does amaze me is how our little $30k plastic cars look at home with these ultra super cars. Certainly not in the same universe as far as performance and materials, but visually it's in the same neighborhood.

Is still prefer a Zonda or Huayra
I'd take the McLaren 650S over the Ferrari, as the engineering and build quality of the former are a quantum leap over anything from the decade of the latter. Also, I like the more understated styling of the McLaren, as most Italian exotics scream 'look at me'.
the Macs are impressive bits of engineering no doubt, but Im guessing build quality isnt any or much better than Ferrari.

My logic is this: there is no point to any sort of supercar except being cool or interesting.

They dont make good track cars, they don't make good driving around cars, they don't make good GT cars.

They are good for being cool, selling magazines, and 3 second blasts to 120mph to scare you friends every now and then.

IMHO old cars are cooler than new cars, in general. I think I just wrote a few sentences trying to say I like the f40 better "just because".
I wish I was closer to Chicago. Those P1's have hot to be amazing in person!
Jeff - you do live at LFSC dont you?

But seriously, sweet pics!

As for the F40 vs P1 I would take the P1 only due to value and buy the F40 and a P650 spider.... The F40 just has the purity that modern cars have lost! With that said the P1 is by far my favorite of the new hypercars besides the Koenigsegg one:1... and thats saying something considering my company produces parts on the 918 lol!

I agree that most supercars are pretty pointless, as the performance envelope is way outside of what you could use on the road and an old E30 with a roll cage probably makes a better track car. The McLarens being made now have been panned by some critics as being too bland because they ride decently, are easier than most Lambos, etc. to drive in traffic, and their handling isn't too tricky.

The F40 doesn't seem as useful as the Mc's do in this respect, but seem too 'modern' if a pure driving experience is what you're after. I think that sports cars from the 50's/60's are cooler, even if the F40 can run rings around them.

In the end, an updated Elise/Exige with McLaren upgrades in technology would be more my cup of tea than anything McLaren or the other exotics make. It won't happen, as has been discussed in detail on this forum.
i was there saturday morning, and saw the maroon p1… it was super sexy.

but then pinched myself and went inside the showroom to look at something more affordable. That red evora is soooooo nice. IF ONLY it would have been convertible :(
@ me! It worked out perfect. Was at a meeting down the street from LFSCtoday at Grainger. So, I stopped in

Glad I did! Funny, you don't even look at FFs or 458 when you see these. Rarity I guess
Btw, nice but ain't no venom gt!!!!

;)

Now, I just need to see a Zonda and a One 77 before I die

Doing mental check, in person I've seen:

-7 Veyrons at once
-14 250 GTOs at once.
- 7 Miuras
- 2 P1s
- 2 Enzos, 4 F40, 3 F50, 3 288gto
- 5 512BB
- Alfa 8c
- Bugatti Atalante
- '33 Mercedes count trossi
- p2/p4
- original cobra, gt40, Daytona, 904
- talbot lago teardrop
- many 300sl, Daytona, et al

I've obviously been to pebble beach week
