Hello everyone, very nice board you have going over here. This is my first post, so forgive me if these are questions you have already been thru and are archived. (I did look, honestly!)

Firstly my intest in the Elise is as a club racer. Is anyone else on the board planning to do trackdays/friendly competition with theirs?

Is the car SCCA legal with it's roll bars, has it been certified yet?

Is there an LA area club formed as yet, with an interest in running track days, drivers ed, and informal race days?

Is there a national level race program sponsored or organized by Lotus?

Are there any specialist Elise upgrade suppliers for us track fans?

Thanks in advance for the info :)

It's still too early to see much about local clubs, track events and such....since we won't have cars for at least 4 months or so.

There will be activities and more. I know I will be helping to set up some events.

There will be Lotus track and racing suppliers. I have been in contact with a few of them.

Lotus is looking to sponsor cars in SCCA T1/T2. I would like them to also look at SCCA ProSolo competition.

Randy,

What does it take to get sponsored?

I cant imagine I would qualify, as I dont have a license yet, nor can I afford one. However, I have been told by many instructors at HPD events that I'm a natural, but I lack experience (only run a half dozen track days). Is there a chance for little me, cute young girl with lots of potential to win over the hearts of the sponsors to support my speed habit?

Not really. Normally getting a sponsorship requires you to first win. Most companies will want a proven winner for a full sponsorship.

You can work out smaller sponsor deals. I used to get free tires for example from Kumho. For many deals, it is more important to know someone that owns a company that might provide some sponsorship, than anything else.

Track Days - a number of the Lotus clubs around the States have track days. The Elise would fit perfectly in any of them. Known for 2004:
STALLS (St Louis) - Track Day June?
Club Lotus NW (Portland) - 2 track days, 1 in spring & another labor day weekend.
Golden Gate Lotus (No Cal) - 6-8 track days from Jan 8 thru Nov. Tracks used are Sears Pt, Reno-Fenley, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow & Laguna (www.gglotus.org).

Given the financial costs of doing Track Days it is best to support one of the established clubs doing track days. If enough Elise drivers attend a special group could be formed so you don't have run with other types of cars.

LA club = Club Lotus Los Angeles. contact Gordonie at [email protected]
