Just curious; has anyone ever fabbed up a shift gate for the Elise/Exige a la older Ferraris and Lambos? Apologies ahead of time if this is a sacrilegious notion like scissor doors. I had my center console off for quite a while, started wondering if there would be any way to do this.

dont know about yours, but it seems my stock shifter is too sloppy to work with a gated plate like that.

Slop box to precision instrument or just a pipe dream

I wonder if a 4 pronged attack a la

1)LETSLA
2)Better shifter cables
3)Stan's mod
4)Reinforcer

would bring things into close enough tolerance to consider the gate?

IIRC, Lotus made some, which I saw at the Hopewell, NJ dealership.

But, there is no point to these: Potential rattles, extra cost, etc.

One of the Elise's I bought came with the Lotus Elise shift gate (Lotus part) new in the bag.

It really didn't look like a good item, so I never installed and actually sold it here.

That's what I want!

I would have tried something years ago, but I don't have the equipment to do it or the time.

Isn't there a cable off the main shifter for the reverse lever lift? I'm not sure where that is positioned relative to a clock with 12' facing forward, but it may prevent having a gate pictured above.
