Wondering if anyone can help me with this one.

I sent of the gage cluster to the UK to get rebuilt. Cluster Repairs UK.. typical fault where there was an open on the PC board .. tach stopped working.. fuel gage inop.

Got it back installed was ok for one ride.

Had a open ground issue on the battery terminal.

Fixed that.. but afterward..

Tach / immobiliser light on continuously, even when key is off and out of car.

When I use the remote and set alarm.. the light flashes as per normal !

But light always on unless the battery terminal is disconnected.. ie no power to car.

Suggestions?

Is this a gage cluster issue or an immobiliser / cobra alarm issue?

Anyone seen this before? I did not see in searches of this forum.

This car previously had issues losing the pos cable terminal on the battery .. due to previous hacks.. I have noticed in the past when the + connection on the battery parted.. this telltale light would come on dimly.. odd behavior due to some anomaly in the wiring of these vehicles..

Ok Dark Sol.. so if I de-pin B7 purple with pink at the back of the gage cluster and the light stays on ,, it is the tach forcing the light on.

On the other hand.. if the tach was forcing the light on then the alarm could not cause the light to blink..

If the open collector transistor in the alarm was short to gnd then the light could not blink either..

So doesn't if have to be software or other circuitry within the alarm that is causing this condition ?

Thanks ! Will check tomorrow and report.

YES!

If the B7 line is disconnected (either by depinning or unplugging the Cobra alarm) and the light STAYS illuminated then it's the cluster.

If the LED goes out then it's either a problem with the Cobra alarm or there's a short somewhere in the wiring in-between.

Good luck - keep us in the loop!

I disconnected the connection to the immobiliser B7 purple with pink and the light tach light stays on ... so I guess it has to be the gage cluster internals doing this.

What I don't understand is.. if the gage cluster is giving this LED both power and ground.. how is the immobiliser able to pull it low, as the light does flash with activation of the immobiliser via the fob. There must be a series resistance to the power that the immobiliser is able to pull low..

In any case the cluster has to go back to the UK for a second time. :-(

Thanks for all the help.

Based on the details, your issue is probably different than mine. However, when I bought mine the shift light was blinking continuously, round the clock, 24-7, regardless of whether the car was running the down highway or parked in my garage for 5 days, and I solved it by following these instructions and setting my alarm to "passive." Solved the whole thing:

FOB Programming Instructions from SirLotus
