So, since specialty is repainting the entire car I'm thinking of getting it painted like exige scura, which would be just painting my gloss access panels matte and adding a gloss black racing stripe. I'd keep the side panels gloss still too. Any thoughts?

A black car in New Mexico? Sounds hot. Hot as in "heat" hot.

When you say side panel what do you mean?

I assume you have an Exige not an Elise. If you like the Scura duplicate it, but since it is a repaint why not do something unique? The Scura pattern of flat and gloss in a different color, for example.

No I have the serebo1 matte black Elise. It's almost all black with some gloss. I don't know the name, on a truck it's called the rocker panel

I think it would look cool.. Except that with an Elise you wouldn't have the mohawk so the stripe on the roof wouldn't be 3d and a little more plain then the exige.. Still pretty neat.

If much of the car is going to be matte why not vinyl wrap it?

I always thought a matte/gloss complement for the interior of the scura would be cool. Not sure how you would do this exactly... Maybe with the center console and AC surround? Not sure... But the idea is interesting...

I have a fully customized interior. Mostly all wrapped in alcantara. and also with matte paint. My car looks like the scura minus the stripe

Would adding a gloss.stripe look good? While painting access panels matte?
I think the lower skirt panels lol fantastic glossy with the matte. I'd add some gloss vinyl racing stripes and call it a day. Maybe even do gloss black in the concave oval for the taillight array. You could even bring the stripe inside the cockpit across part of the dash for effect. In vinyl it would be minimal cost and easy to switch for those of us who lack commitment.

Seeing your car, I'd definitely get the racing stripe on top and the access panels flat. The side panels, I could go either way; if it is a total repaint I would go flat on the side panels, but I like the idea of gloss on the side. Maybe a lower gloss stripe that is straight?

IMO I think it looks strange with the lower side panel still being gloss black? Why didn't they paint those flat?

Anyways, I would love to get a flat black final edition Exige to add a one foot Lotus Motorsport green stripe down the center have a 1/2 inch gap to the right and do a 4in Lotus Yellow stripe "haven't figured out which yellow" But that's what I would love to do, and yellow seats with green accents or stripes.

I agree. I'd also prefer the Monolites match the paint.

Not feeling that in the slightest.

Yeah, it's pretty impossible to match the paint. The repaint of the roof took 5 tries. Ridiculously hard to match due to the amount of flake in the paint.

Really San's? The Lotus colors in neat metallic stripes on a Matte Black edition doesn't tug your strings?

Oh well, I wish I had to money to see how bad the idea is :D

I'm keeping the lower side panels gloss, I love the way it looks. The only real change would be painting the access panels matte and adding a gloss stripe.

Are there any photoshop wizards here that can do that for me using one of the posted pictures?

Are your RAC wheels gloss powder coated? Mine are painted from the factory in a matte black that is looking dingy after a few years.

you know I'm not sure of the exact finish on my wheels but they look great and have been on for a few years already. They are gloss, that's as much as I know.
