Well.. We're taking the trek out to SoCal and I know a few of you on here are from the area or know it well.. I'm more familiar with the SF and northern wine country, so I'm looking for suggestions on lodging and stuff to do in the area.. We'll be there for the week of July 4th plus weekends..

We'll have the rugrats with us so, no renting a lotus this time.. grr.. getting some huge honkin' SUV to haul around all the crap.. Can't wait for that 6$ California gas.. yea..

We'll be in Big Bear for July 4th.. so I guess we're looking at about 4-5 days in San Diego and area.. I'd rather set up base camp in San Diego and take day trips around..

Cheers!

If you're in SD, stop by la jolla. It's nice little town near SD.

Last time I was in SD, I stayed at the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel (wouldn't stay there if you have kids though) and it was adjacent to petco park, pretty nice.

Cool.. Thanks..

Lego Land worth the trip?

How's about any fantastic wineries for a picnic or something?

The wineries in Temecula aren't bad, but the ones in the Santa Ynez valley are better, IMO. But that would be a long ride from San Diego. The San Diego Zoo is actually really cool, especially with kids.

Lake Arrowhead is having Fire Works on the 4th. of July. Worth the trip from Big Bear.

There is also a casino down the hill in Highland if you can sneak away from the RR's.

Check out Julain if you must go to SD.

Santa Barbara and the wine country of Central CA. is a blast if you want to go north.

SLO and Highway 1 is great but, you'll wish you had a LOTUS.

Have a great time.

Stay on Mission Bay in San Diego.

Lots of great hotels on the water.

Rent boats, fish, swim, great for kids!

Go to SEAWORLD! (Great for kids)

The San Diego Zoo.

There's a cool art show in San Diego now with neon in Balboa Park.

Coronado Island is just south of there.

Legoland north but nearby - fun for kids! Hot!

One hour north to Oceanside - home of the Marines AND a ton of kid activities.

You could take the train up the coast all the way to L.A. Many stops along the way.

A little farther north Irvine has a very cool indoor go-kart place.

Laguna - art town. fun. Great for walking around.

A little more north in Carson is a kiddy go kart place that's great.

2 Hours north to L.A. EVERYTHING to do in L.A.

Have fun!

San Diego Wild Animal Park is nice since you can see animals roaming around in widely open areas and not caged like a traditional zoo:
Welcome to SanDiegoZoo.org!

And like someone else said above, you can see Shamoo the Whale at Sea World

it will be for your kids. not much fun for adults, unless you really really like legos.

Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm is probably a bit more fun for the whole family.
