I think the tree helped facilitate it ....I guess such a rigid car has to give somewhere and since its all glued together ( albiet space age glue) it still would be prone to such things when hit with large impact at that spot on the car.

according to SELOC - The driver survived with some injuries (skull fracture and such).

You must be a moron to be able to split your car in the city where its way to dangerous to drive the Elise like it should be done. I've seen several Elise's after crashes, including an Elise crashing sideways into a three with 70 miles an hour. The driver was ok, the car not anymore lol. It was still in 1 piece but close to 2 pieces.
So the driver of this 2 piece Elise must have driven like a crazy
