My speedo in my 90 SE is officially bonkers.

Until I get it fixed, could some kind soul with a similar vintage Esprit get me the tach readings in 5th gear for 55 and 70 mph. I think it's 2300 and 3000 RPM, but want to be sure.

the V8 ratios aren't the same.
I seriously don't remember what RPM's my Esprit runs in any gears... but LEW knows

Esprit Models
Ratios: Gear Ratio km/h/1000rpm
5th 0.82:1 37.2
4th 1.03:1 29.6
3rd 1.38:1 22.0
2nd 2.05:1 14.9
1st 3.36:1 9.0

so the math works out to 2379rpm at 55 in 5th
and 3029rpm at 70 in 5th

With mine, the delrin bushing that held the two pins in alignment (one on the rotating magnet, one on the cup) came apart. The tin cup was hitting the magnet, causing the needle to jerk all over the place.

I'm experimenting with a glob of epoxy to replace the bushing. Have to taper the countersink just right.

Speedo repair procedure

Hello everyone, This may be my 1st post here. Can't actually recall.... any way, I have a 93.5 that had a bouncy speed needle then it just stopped,

Lou Senko, Austin, TX wrote " I just fixed mine - it was bouncing all over then stopped..... had to take it all apart, glued the rotating weight back onto the end of the drive".

Hi Lou, have any pictures of your fix-it or the steps taken. I looked at the unit a while back but looks to be a sealed unit ... so how did you open it?

Actually like to know how fast I'm going.

Thanks,

Larry

Have any problems getting the bezel off? It looks like the edges are rolled.
Don't know about the Esprit, but for my earlier instruments, you simply rotate the bezel on the instrument housing and it comes off.
