The starter motor of my Elise S1 sometimes stalls and I have noticed it is more pronounced when the engine is warm. The starter will turn over and then stop but when you keep the key turned, it will pick up again. So it looks like the starter motor is not powerful enough to turn the engine over. My assumption is that the battery cable has some voltage drop on it and that this is exacerbated when the engine is warm because of the cable running in close proximity to the cooling pipes running to the radiator (within the left hand side of the chassis). Over time this also seems to kill the starter motor - I am on motor number 3! Wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Finally have some time to look at this so thought I'd post this before starting the work. Perhaps also worth asking - how difficult is it to remove the battery cable from the chassis?
