does anyone know how to remove the steering wheel without the risk of deploying the airbag accidentally?

Disconnect the battery, wait a while (20 minutes?), then remove the wheel. I don't know how to remove the wheel, but at least this will prevent the airbag from going off.

Naw...the steering wheel in the Elise is one of the best I've ever used, I have no desire to replace it.

Maybe
'stomach' overhang is fueling his desire
to have a removable steering wheel. But
what does he do if, after seating himself,
he's unable to find enough space
between his stomach and a securable
steering wheel? Well, forget doing any
twisties, but at least he can go straight
and posssibly be able to make wide,
banking turns by leaning to the sides.
