Anyone ever made their own straight pipe for the elise/exige? I'm thinking about it... had my exhaust off recently to take off my stage II and it didn't sound too bad without an exhaust... any thoughts? would the pops/gurgles be awesome on deceleration with straight pipe?

Thanks

You'll certainly get more pops and snaps on overrun. It also reduces the risk of fire in the event of a fueling malfunction without the cat.

I personally think most all four-bangers sound like complete garbage without a muffler of some kind, but your mileage may vary.

...what about building a true dual-exhaust manifold, two cylinders per pipe coming out each side?..you'd probably get some interesting moire patterns in the exhaust note, and could even attach a pair of lightweight bike mufflers if it's too loud...

I have a buddy here who recently had straight pipes on his '05 Elise, but due to a significant power loss issue he went with the Stage II instead. I have to say that the sound was pretty awesome. Even after having my elise for a year and a half, one lap around the block in that thing put a huge grin on my face. Sounds great though!
