Any other customer cars this week?
Congrats on yours--certainly well deserved.
I think that was all they are getting right now. But then maybe not. I only asked about the demo and my car. :)

Looks like my car could be here as early as the first week of August. yay!
Damn. That's my car. Silver and Black w. touring...
I can confirm that as of noon today, Symbolic does not have any Elises in prep or rolling off the truck.

And a Jimmy's Special for $4.50 is quite the deli bargain.
Will have to get down there for my test drive in the next couple weeks.

Looking at a pretty sweet Porsche track car as an alternative, so Elise will really have to impress to make me wait another 6-12 months for my 30s spot. Nice to have options, though
Who here has deposits with Symbolic? I'm wondering how their allocations are going to work out, but I haven't been able to get any information on their order #'s to date or in the future. I have a spot in the 20's, but haven't been called to order, yet. I'm a bit baffled that order #'s in the 20's wouldn't be coming in until mid 2005. Are they getting that small an allotment? Maybe Galpin is taking some of their allotment...

Anyone know of some deposit numbers that have come up for order already at Symbolic or know their allotment numbers?

JLL
As noted, I'm in the 30s at Symbolic BH

I would have thought that if you were in the 20s, you would have been called to spec the car. But given the fact that their first cars were ordered to Symbolic's specs, it's possible that few or even no customers have been asked to submit their formal orders. The 'combined' La Jolla/BH list (if it's really done that way) throws more uncertainty on it

Last word I got was to expect my car around October, but I think that's entirely unrealistic with all the delays. Maybe early 2005, but I figure more like early summer 05 at this rate. Not sure I'll wait
Symbolic just told me that the car won't be here for another 2-3 weeks. What the?

There was a long thread many months ago at the now defunct
official Lotus forum. It involved Nick from Bev Hills. The gist of it was that Nick said list number means nothing, just keep in touch with him and he'll tell you when to expect your car. He also said that any prior Symbolic customers take priority over list people.

This last point I'm not certain about, but I believe I read here that Symbolic Bev Hills ordered their first 10 cars to their specs without calling any list people. It would appear that they intend to sell those to the highest bidder and that being #1 on Symbolics list means #11 at best. Top all this off with the fact that
there is no Symbolic Bev Hills anymore.

I doubt that Galpin gettin cars will affect Symbolics allocation. As Chris said in the Galpin thread Lotus knew they were going to sign new dealers. They probably had cars not announced in any allocation to fill those dealer orders. In any case a Galpin addition would probably do no worse than to draw off 1 car per dealer.

People on the Symbolic list that don't own a Elise website are going to have problems. I hope I'm wrong about that forecast.

Regards

Steve

I believe that the La Jolla and Beverly Hills lists are separate. I believe that Symbolic ordered 30 cars for each dealership. I believe that they ordered the first 10 cars for the La Jolla list without consulting with customers, and I would assume that the same might be true for the BH list. Those cars presumably are being sold off to the highest bidder (my speculation) and/or to prior Symbolic customers, although Randy seems to have slipped in there somehow.

I know that I placed my order for Saffron Yellow, hardtop + touring package. I'm on the BH list but I don't know my exact position number, although at one time I was around 10 and later told top 20, which then seemed to have slipped into mid-20s. I believe that Symbolic placed their second round of orders (cars 11-30) in two stages and I know that I slipped into the first stage, so I'm assuming that I'm in the 11-20 group.

It's all guesswork, but I have been repeatedly assured that I should have a car before the end of 2004. After assigning arbitrary values to countless unknown variables, my rough calculations suggest that my car probably will show up in December, perhaps November if I'm lucky. Or later. Or sooner. I really don't know.

I placed my deposit mid-January 2003. I'm old and cranky and tired of waiting. I'm very excited to see that cars are arriving and people are loving them, yet very depressed that my car isn't here.

I believe that Lotus indicated that the dealers should get estimated build dates for existing orders by the end of July or so. I hope so, as that would help improve my state of mind quite a bit.

I'm in much the same position, chronologically, with jml, and have been told pretty much the same things. I am hoping, and expecting, that Symoblic will soon be able to get us more information on the build dates etc.

It might help that I have this forum. I don't know that for a fact, but it does stand to reason. And some (or most) of that could also be a reflection of Graham's perception of those involved in the Lotus community. He seemed particularly impressed with the people involved with the local Lotus clubs and made sure to take the time to introduce me. He told me that it's people like that he considers as the people that if they came up to him and wanted an early car, he can make it happen.

It may also help that I was number one on the list in La Jolla.

But I don't know. I do feel like I got a little lucky. I am looking at less than 3 weeks now.
Hey Randy, next time you talk to them can you find out about test drives? I test drove the Euro Elise when it was there but my deposit is with Desert European. I have a feeling most dealerships are going to be stingy on who they let drive the demo like deposit holders only.

Although I was told I couldn't test drive the Euro one without a deposit. :D
Then again that area isn't the best for a test drive either. I hit lots of traffic and we went mostly uphill.
Hmmm... Yeah... All a bit confusing and frustrating. I remember reading the earlier thread on Symbolic, which prompted me to contact them. At that point I was told I would receive a car some time around October this year. Feeling I was being treated well, I pulled my other deposits (foolishly). But now I'm being told a tenative delivery of summer of 2005 due to production delays which doesn't seem to jive with what's going on at the other dealers and what Lotus has anounced. I did place my deposit with BH, but I wouldn't have thought "in the 20's" meant a 2006 model! I think I tend to trust a little too much that people will do the right thing...

Symbolic told you 'summer 05' for a deposit in the 20s?

I hope it's not THAT bad. Roughly 40 dealers, 30 cars each = 1200 cars by summer 05? Production is supposed to be a lot higher than that (double), so either they are blowing smoke or plan to sell off a lot of cars 'off the list'

This is starting to sound a bit silly.
JLL,
When did you place your deposit?
Yeah, it baffles me, as well. I'm hoping that they are just being unbelievably conservative with their estimate. If I were them, I certainly would want to do that to keep expectations under control. But that is just so far off what I was originally told and what I'm hearing here and elsewhere that I don't know what to think.

I don't recall exactly (or have my paperwork in front of me) but I think my Symbolic deposit was placed in early to mid 2003.

I'm just waiting it out at Symbolic. They have been pretty good and their service center isn't too far. In fact, they were very receptive at the LA Lotus Club meet too, so I think they appreciate enthuisiasts as Randy was saying

But I wish Graham could get Club111/Lotus Ltd. members their cars a little earlier! :p
