I was just watching The Targa Newfoundland rally on SPEED channel and I saw a BRG Elise competing. The driver was Robert Kriedle of Canada. Are you on Lotus Talk? How did you and the car make out? It looks like the roads are pretty rough, I hope the Elise had enough ground clearance. Looked like fun, though.

Targa Tasmania starts tomorrow.
Usually some good examples of why not to lower a Lotus.

Never heard of a Targa in the states, unless it was in reference to a Porsche.

At the end of the episode they listed the website with all the details.

Looks like this year (2007) he competed in the Targa class, looks like he's in that class for 08 as well.

Looks like they won the silver plate award in 2007:

Silver Plate Award

A silver targa plate is presented to the driver and co-driver that have completed all the Targa stages within the plate time specified for their vehicle class. The plate time is calculated as a base time plus a percentage depending on the vehicle and the class.

Hope he stops by and talks about it. There was a couple shots of his car, but no real footage. At least the voice over as he drove by was talking about how the expert drivers take the corner and then showed him taking it the way they described.

Really glad I recorded it, that's the kind of casual street legal 'racing' I would be into. Seems like a tremendous amount of fun and you get to see the countryside.

When I was younger I participated in some time/speed/distance road rally competitions in Massachusetts driving all over the back roads. Mind you, I was driving a 78 Camaro at the time (cost me $1900, all I could afford while I was in high school).

Driving in those races inspired me to pick up the Audi Quattro which is supposedly "the best" for that style of race. Now that I've got the lotus I wouldn't mind challenging that assessment.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I just barely cracked the Targa website, so only found the gentleman's name. Maybe I'll PM and ask for a few more pictures. The TSD computer install looks good through the window.

No post 13 in the other thread, but the three lines look like Khumos in that pic too.

That was my car, glad you enjoyed the show. Targa Newfoundland is an amazing event, well organized and a unique opportunity to drive you car flat out on some amazing roads. We are from Montreal and ran in grand tourning equipped (TSD rally with 140km/h speed cap) where the average speeds are fast enough to have lots of fun especially on the slower in-town stages. We placed 4th, we made one 12 second error on day 3 that moved us from 1st-4th and the competition was so tight we could not make it up. The worst part is the error was a math error that had us running the wrong average speed for the midsection of the leg. With all the experienced drivers in the class the margin for error was very slim. We were very pleased with or results considering it was the first rally for both of us.

That would be me. We just finished the race last night at 5. Finished 4th in Class (OPEN), 26th overall. In general we are very happy with our performance considering the car is not well suited for an event like this. And the car looks a lot more beat up now. Front clam probably going to need to be replaced after a trip lawn mowing adventure. Rear ball joint dead, clutch is basically toast. Amazing event. More info at www.targanewfoundland.com.
There's also more pics of his car here: http://lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40682

I believe those posts are referring to Targa 06 and 07.

(ace10 would be so proud of me)
