Pattern recognition, we read in blocks of words, not one word, one letter at a time.

Here is a little perl script I wrote that does this. Its kind of fun to run it and see what it does to text.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl

while (<>) {
  s!([A-Za-z]{3,})!{
    $middle = "";
    @chars = split //, $1;
    $first = $chars[0];
    $last  = $chars[$#chars];
    @chars = @chars[1..$#chars-1];
    while (scalar @chars) {
      $index = int(rand($#chars));
      $middle .= $chars[$index];
      splice @chars,$index,1
    }
    "$first$middle$last"
  }!ge;
  print
}

No, I find it very sad because my proof reading skills are really bad. I can run across a misspelled or incorrect world (sic) several times and miss it because my mind auto-corrects it for me. And I can't turn the damn thing off!:(

Hey, I wrote a script like that too. Funny thing is, mine doesn't work. I don't see why -- it looks identical to yours...

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl

wihle (<>) {
  s!([A-Za-z]{3,})!{
    $middle = "";
    @chars = split //, $1;
    $frist = $cahrs[0];
    $last  = $chars[$#chars];
    @chars = @chars[1..$#chars-1];
    while (scalar @chars) {
      $index = int(rand($#chars));
      $middle .= $cahrs[$index];
      slpice @chars,$idnex,1
    }
    "$frist$middle$last"
  }!ge;
  pirnt
}
