Hi Folks!

I now am the proud owner (as of Friday night) of my first Lotus. It is an '02 Series 2 Elise Sport Tourer, in Cobalt Blue. :)

When I was a kid, I used to race Karts (not the rubber-bumpered dodgem car variety - these things were bare bones). I raced Class I, and they would hit 85 mph. When I turned 16, I graduated to Class IV, and they would do 115-120 on the straightaway. Safety features included a crash helmet. Period. I loved it.

Later, I raced rally, in a Ford Escort Mk 1 . . . 262 bhp, and it showed! My personal vehicle (back in the 70's) was a 3 litre Ford Granada and a ton of engine/suspension work. To cut a long story short, I went boring. Last car I bought was a Fiesta. Practical, doncherknow.

I'd been carrying these pages I cut out from Classic Car in 2006 about the Elise. I was always going on about Lotus. My daughter bought me a track day, and it was just perfect! It was as though the motor has been designed around me (I'm 5' 8" and 150 lbs). I blasted that car around that track like I was 17 again, and people said, just blooming buy one, why don't you?

Well, for one reason and another, that got put on hold, until a guy was selling his motor, just a few mile from where I live. I went there on spec, and fell in love all over again. The deal was done, and he said as I was walking toward the motor, "you've got that Lotus grin". I did not really understand what he meant until I took it on the road.

OH MY DEAR SWEET JESUS!

It had new Bridgestone Potenzas and a Janspeed exhaust, and it held the road like it was on tram lines. All I had to do was to tell the car what I wanted, and it would do it. So I drove the car. Hard. Country roads and motorway. It felt like I was in a Class IV, but for grown-ups. Glory! Just . . . pure . . .glory.

I am in love. Lotus . . .

Best Regards,
Donna

p.s. I rode passenger today. My girlfriend almost backed out within the first mile, feeling the car was too much for her, but after burning a boy racer in a fast hatch . . .got the Lotus grin!
