Just got an email from Palm Beach. They are not asking for a $5-10K down payment when the car is ordered. They will ask for a sizeable down payment that has yet to be determined which will most likely be less than that. It is in order to make sure that people are really serious about buying the car.

I think this is a good idea. That way the dealers wont order a car and have the person get denied for financing or change their mind afterwards and have to deal with adjusting their lists and finding out if the next person on the line wants that car or the one they ordered. I dont think LOTUS USA offers a finance problem and my saleman knows I work for a bank and wanted to know if I could finance people with less than great credit. I think they are afraid a lot of people may want these cars but may not be able to obtain financing. It's not like their high end Aston Martin clients who just pay cash most of the time.

So there may be hope for the people who are over #100 at other dealers if people start dropping off the lists when they are told to come up with the $ and financing or get their deposit back. It would also stop people from making multiple deposits at differant dealers and messing up sales estimates.

Criswell Deposits

Criswell in Maryland (MD) is supposed to be in the 120's. I'm number 107 but 5 people have dropped off so probably 102 now.

As of early December, 1,200 cars were
ordered according to the President of
Lotus USA. Don't remember which specific interview/article it was in but I do remember reading it. I assume that number has increased somewhat over the last two weeks.

I bet he was being conservative. I haven't seen a tally here recently but I would bet we are close to 1500. A good percentage will drop off but it is still early. Once the final details are released after the L.A. auto show there will be another rush to order. I'm sure there will be over 2000 confirmed orders before the first car is delivered.

Roughly, I have been able to come up with a figure of 1,254 orders......from 26 of the 38 dealers. Since that averages out to about 50 per dealer, doing a mathematical process of averaging, were
we to apply the same averaging to the remaining 12 dealers, I come up with a
grand total of 1,900 estimated orders. I
am curious to know how far I'm 'off' the actual which must come from Lotus unless we have a clairvoyant in the group.

Just imagine what's going to happen when the auto shows begin displaying the vehicle to the public. L.A. in Jan.,
then Detroit, then Chicago, and N.Y in
April. Lotus better be gearing up for an all out assault that will stun the free world!
Not even their present full production capacity of 5,000 cars (worldwide) will be
enough to handle the requests for this car in U.S.. The key is the trusted name of Toyota being the makers of the engine and transmission which ensures
the vehicle being able to be taken to a Toyota dealer for those not in possession of mechanical aptitude and leery of going to private mechanics with a new car.

You need to find out what your reservation number is. Keep in mind that
dealers, even the larger ones, aren't going to average more than 6 to 8 cars per month with deliveries beginning in April or May. Do the math, once you know your '#', and you will be able to have an idea as to when you can expect the car.

they are figuring that there will be fallout
from customers who eventually become too impatient to wait 12 months or more.
if Lotus decides to fill orders by 'order date', not by dealer, it is conceivable that higher numers at one dealer could get filled faster than lower ones at others
who came aboard later.

I am #66. I do hope they get more than 6/month. 5 per month would put me into 2006 allocation, which I am not even sure will exist!!?

why don't you cancel your #66 reservation and get in the 20's with
Valenti in Ct.? If they get 4 cars a month,
you would be looking at Fall or Winter of 2004 at worst. The only problem could be if they are basing the filling of orders on actual dates orders were logged in, you
will be even worse off. Not sure about the system Lotus will be using.
