Just had the oil quickly deplete from my 2007 Elise. Got it shut down quickly. Imagine it is the lines like everyone else.
Q 1: Replace with OEM or Sector111 option? or any better options? (located in Texas)
Q 2: How long should it take a shop to change the lines? What is fair price?
Q 3: any other ideas?
It is currently at a good lotus repair shop awaiting my requests....

Thanks all!!

Hey ElisePtown,
Quite a few of us have been through this. I think all the aftermarket options are very robust and probably much better than "oem". I know RLS makes a great setup too. I replaced my own with the sector 111 system. Just make sure it gets done right and they check the oil cooler thoroughly too. Can't say how long it should take a shop....probably took me 12 hours working methodically. It was the first clam-off job I have done on the Elise.

Where in TX? I am north side of Dallas. PM if you have any questions.

The remote oil cooler ends from lotus itself up being the least expensive if you are paying for labor to replace all the lines AND if you factor in that you get a radiator as well (which you will end up replacing anyway).

I see you're a new member...

This is a well-known recall through Lotus - expected official in January.
I'd take the car to a Lotus dealership to get reapired... they should cover the cost.

Yes, do this. Should be nothing out of pocket.

1. It's seldom the lines. More likely the fittings to oil cooler.

2. I used BAT fittings, as did many others. Very secure, attach to existing lines.

3. Many threads on how to fix on LT.

4. If clam does come off, replace radiator with all-aluminum unit. Also found on those threads.

5. I believe the Oetiker clamp w/BAT pieces are better than what recall may provide, but don't have the pprwk in front of me, i.e. I wanted more security than crimps. (If you go this way, you will need to borrow/buy the clamp tool.)

If you want your car to be running NOW......consider the toyota adapter and simply eliminate the sandwich.....at least for now.

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f312/2zz-oil-cooler-sandwich-plate-delete-99319/

This is an easy job. The hardest part is getting the correct socket to remove the sandwich bolt. The hex one....I used a smaller hex wrench and stuck a flat blade screw driver in to fill the void. Worked great.

I actually have one I'm not using if you want it. Brand new in the bag, $10 shipped if you want it.

Guys,
Thanks for all the great advice!!
It is the crimp at the engine side.
Called the Lotus dealer and they said it should be covered on warranty.
Having towed their. (Park Place Lotus)
Any thoughts on whether the "improved" dealer repair will hold up?

I will definitely upgrade on my time to avoid this again.

Been watching the board for over a year. Lotustalk just fixed my login where I can now post.

Yes, the new recall has the good barb fittings (but the recall said the dealers wouldn't be getting them until January). I'd make sure that is what they use.

hey guys... it looks like i am in the same boat!...

I walked down to my car, which was parked, and has been for 2 days. to find all the oil on the floor. :( but it was not until i had started the car and pulled it out of the parking spot that i saw that.
I quickly turned off the engine and now i am getting towed.

For me it happened in the front. i can see it through the grill and the oil line on the passenger side is pulled apart..

lets hope its a quick fix.

I still haven't gotten an answer on this: from the recall notice I read...it only appears to cover 05-07 cars.....I just bought an '08....does that mean I don't have to worry about the oil line/fitting problems?

Thanks,
Sean
