So I got the bright idea to pull off the "Cover, intake plenum" to have it powdercoated. Paint is flaking off and making a mess of my engine bay. Then I thought "what about that backplate..." Any tips? Do it or stay away from it?

Just use the red high temp spray paint, and then you can do the backing plate without removal. Paint the other pieces on the bench. Everything will match.

I removed and reinstalled my backplate for powdercoating without incident.

I marked the exact position of the throttle bodies and my powdercoater masked these areas, so everything went back together the same.

I see your car has roll pins to aid positioning...my '88 didn't.

Luckily I had the intake manifold off on mine when I refurb'd it.

Hats off to you.

I can't take all the credit for getting that off. I followed the advice and instruction of Drew's Garage. I closed my eyes and used my fingertips :). Off it came. Drew Levin really knows Lotus. Among other cars.
