It is very likely that cell phones are dangerous. Billions of revenue depend on convincing you they are safe and that in 25 years your brain won't be tumor-ridden. When corps have all that at risk they won't give a damn about any medical research or your health. Money first. Since corporate interests run our government, don't count on any truth coming from there either.

No different than the 60s with cigarettes. Ads portraying surgeons smoking because it would steady their hands during surgery and pronouncing the cigs were good for your lungs.

Unfortunately, people are still self-destructive enough to use those also.

A wired headset is the way to go if you use a headset a lot. Why risk your health by trusting proven liars?

We also didn't have civil rights back then. The press didn't let out that Kennedy was hitting everything that walked into the White House that had pubic hair and was over 17. (Now our leaders can't even get a quick BJ from some fat broad.) Alcohol was advertised on TV (as were Cigarettes). Times are different. The cigarette industry was crushed because of their indiscretions. Plus your argument doesn't make sense. If it's going to take 25 years before something surfaces, how could they or anyone else know about it today? I'd want to see independant research anyway. Why don't we just let government control every aspect of our lives? Trust me you'll die from fast food, lack of excercise and driving small plastic cars without bumpers long before a cell phone will kill you.

I think cell phones are pretty bad for your health, although in a different way.

Theres a school of fish that believe cell phone usage correlates to self worth.. More incoming calls the more people view themselves as being needed.. Cell phones affect us psychologically as well.. :)

I used to work for Motorola. Sometime in the late 1980's, a former Motorola employee tried to sue the company claiming that his work on cell phones had caused his brain cancer. Motorola won the case.

After that, Motorola spent a lot of additional money on exploring the effects of RF from cell phones on the human body. NCSA was involved in some of that research by developing and running some very intense simulations.

I believe cell phones are relatively safe... probably a lot safer that sitting in front of a CRT all day.

It was interesting, though, that cell phone owner's manuals shipped with Motorola phones contain text regarding RF emitted by phones and close contact with your body. Cell phone clips were designed to hold the phone about 1.5 inches when worn on a belt.

So, in theory, I could set up that magnetron under someone's seat and pop their hemoriods. :D

Anyone know the range of the magnetron or to boost the output? I'm thinking of hooking it up to the front grill of my car.

30-40 years ago, a lot of the US telephone traffic was routed through microwave relays. You may have seen the large cone-shaped "horns" on mountains and hills.

They used to find a lot of dead birds in the vicinity of those horns... got too close and got "cooked".

I don't believe Noisycow said anything about "knowing." He said, "It is very likely..." That's a guess. He's allowed to do that.

Personally, I can see how they could (ie: might) cause cancer, given enough exposure. Modern wireless phones emit a fairly high level of microwave radiation. And it IS radiation -- don't kid yourself. It's simply a matter of what is a safe exposure level. As someone who doesn't use his cell phone that often (less than 1 call per day on average), I'm really not worried. But if I was some business mogul who talked on his phone 13 hours a day I would be.
