I just spoke w/ my dealer (Wally at Star in Houston) who told me to anticipate a Late Sept/Early Oct delivery (originally was mid August in spring of this year).

Now with a 4-5 week lag between leaving the factory and delivery to the dealer, that would that build would be completed the end of August.

As it is takes 2 weeks to build, and it's the end of the 1st week, shouldn't he have an anticipated build date of the 14th?

What i'm saying is that he has no anticipated build date, and working backwards, it should be started in a week or so.

Why isn't this information getting to dealers yet?

Sorry, I'm just frustrated.

He has no anticipated build date? Something's definitely wrong then. My dealership gave me a build date of September, about a month ago.

Robert, what # are you at Star? I'm in the upper 20s, so I don't expect mine for a while.

# 12.

I expected a build date at least at this point. We're definitely w/i the 2 month delivery window at this point I think.

Unless your dealer has the most minute of allocations I would expect you to get a #12 car in the second wave, sometime between Oct.-Nov..

Had talked to my dealer about 3 weeks ago. The had just gotten word that there Sept. to be built cars had been "locked". In this case it covers #10-13. It may be more a matter finding the right person at the dealership who has the info. It's certainly doesn't seem to be a secret that Lotus is keeping from them. Given the delays getting into port and onto transports a two week window to get the car in hand sound reasonable. Personally am #11, which is #2 for my dealer Sept allotment. My guess is mid-late Oct delivery. Delivery is the importation one, guess you could try to work backwards from that to get a build date (seems like late Aug or early Sept).

I had talked to Bill at Valenti today. He said don;t hold him to this but that he expects 19 cars thru the end of the year. He should be receiving car #3 (customer car #2) this week. Checking the calendar that's just about one car per week. Since I'm #25 I'm expecting mine in early February.

Hmmm! Can I fit a pumpkin in the trunk.....or a turkey a month later? Just call me 'Boo-12' or 'Gobble 12'. P.S. - I was #13 originally but after sobbing and threatening suicide, Bill moved me up to #12.

Visited the dealer today. I'm number 7 and my car will be built later this month. Anticipated delivery date is about Sept 20th

It seems like my dealer gets one car a week, and a carrier comes having cars for all of the dealers in the area, so being within a few hours drive of the distrubution center amd having 5 dealers in the state has its benefits since the cars can all be loaded up and delivered in one day- No need to wait for a full car carrier that is headed to a dealership in the middle of nowhere.

But them there are probably going to be 200 people within a 50 mile radius of me that have them. So much for exclusiveness.

I was shown a faxed sheet with Lotus logos, with a chart showing "my" car, the build month, color, options, etc. I don't recall seeing any specific day though, just the month. So it would appear that the dealers can obtain and disseminate this information if they wish. (unless this is a forgery or non-standard document of course, and assuming the order has already been put in.)

I asked about the new computer system for finding out information and the dealer said it is not operational yet, but they get reports emailed to them. They are on an excel type sheet, it didnt give an exact build date but based on the current rates of delivery and my place in line they can figure out a pretty much when I should be getting the car.

Ohh.. now that's very interesting. What is this sheet called, so I can ask for it by name?

Does it say "Confidential. Do not show to customers under any circumstances lest they know when the car might be built?" :)

Seriously, if someone has a scanned sample, photo, or even just the title of this document, I'd love to try to get a copy of mine as some tangible evidence I'm not being jerked around.

Not a lot of information coming out of Sports & Specialist Cars either. I still haven't been able to get a build date from them.

Build Time

As it is takes 2 weeks to build,

Don't know where this idea came from. If you visit the factory you will see that when the Elise production line is in normal operation a new car is built every 45 minutes. It may take a while to get your order into the system, and to have all the parts in place, but I can assure you that from the time production of your car begins to the time your car rolls off the line with engine running will be less than 1 hour. In fact, the plans for increased production will no doubt mean that at least 2 cars are produced every hour.

Hi Joel, welcome.

I have been told that linear time to build a car is near two weeks. I don't know what that entails. Part of it might include the 1-6 days awaiting shipment.

Just because a car rolls off the line every 45 minutes does not imply that it only takes 45 minutes to build each car. What about the paint and bake time? In general a large number of operations for one car can be overlapped with operations on another car.
