Tire wear -- everyday driving

I've been reading the posts about the Yoko LSS tires, etc. But I don't intend to get LSS, nor to race my Elise.

Do the standard tires have a reasonable wear factor? Are there commercial tires available that would provide good wear without compromising handling too much? I would like to be able to drive to California (from Pittsburgh) without having to buy a new set of tires just to get home. Certainly, I would sacrifice a little handling to get all-around performance from the tires -- traction in rain, reasonable expense, reasonable tire life.

Does anybody know what tires will be available in the States as replacements for the originals? Does anybody know what kind of tire life and wet traction can be expected from the original tires of the standard configuration?

I'd expect to need new tires every 10-12,000 miles

yup, that's about what my current car (M3) runs. they're about $210 fronts, $250 rears.

Although, the rears wear out about twice as fast as the fronts. I'd guess that might be the case with the elise too, considering RWD + weight distribution.
mixed fast road use with a track day every 2 months or so I get

10K miles out of the rear Bridgestones
15 K miles out of the fronts
