Auto Europe designed a custom trailer for my Exige. Like the Lotus design ethic "add lightness" it is an all aluminum trailer that opens like a clam. This fully encloses the car for protection from the elements. It uses tandem axels with brakes. The trailer is set low in order to keep a low profile. The wheels of the trailer are set low enough that the doors open without obstruction. To secure the car they installed a track system that allows a tire strap hold the car in place. This trailer does precisely what I required of it.

I have towed the car for over a thousand miles and the trailer has had no trouble at all and the tire straps needed no adjusting along the way.

My truck is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery and despite what another calls a POS, it has been a fantastic vehicle and trouble free as well. I would recommend the new Land Rover LR3 given what I have read/heard from others.

We will be retrieving the car/trailer from storage Wednessday and I will publish fresh pictures that detail the design features.

Yes...Eric from Auto Europe and I had talked about a design just for the Elise. I did not know that it had been accomplished. Would love to see the pictures.

Trailex Trailers

So, those of you with the Trailex trailers, what model do you guys have? I've got the 7541 that was built for my 993 and was wondering if there would be any problems fitting an Exige on there.

I am not a fan of trucks or suvs. I use a Mercedes E300 turbodiesel with a small tilt trailer. Torque and mpg.

I have the CT-7541. The width is perfect. It gives you a couple of inches on each side even with wide tires and spacers, so you don't have to be perfectly precise while loading the car. It's longer than necessary. I got mine with the axles set to the back position. If you currently use it for a Porsche, you might have that already. Otherwise, I think it's possible to move the axles because it's all bolted.

Hey Patrick,

The rock shield was an option.

Given that our trailer is doing double duty between Ben's race car and mine and we very often do the same events, we may need to get another one -- maybe a Trailex.

Reemo, how about it? -- shipping from Ohio is the same whether it's one or four trailers. Anybody else want a Trailex?

We made the trailer to suit the PRB (7 replica) and it weighs only 230kg. It has electric brakes.

The S1 with K20a is a fantasic car. I am the agent in Australia for the conversion which comes form England.

Thanks for the Trailex info ConeFusion and MyElise.

Tough to see from the picture, but on my CT-7541, there is one axle mounting hole set to the rear and four to the front. I got the trailer new from Trailex and told them what I was towing with (Explorer) and what I was towing (993), and that's how they set it up. Tows great.

If in doubt, call Trailex, they've always been great for customer service.

Jack, I'll be needing one for my Circuit Car - and that one above looks perfect - my biggest issue is I want to be able to park my loaded car in my garage on the trailor, so I want the smallest one possible.

We need to do our purchase together -- shipping is the killer --$1900 is what Trailex quoted me for delivery from Ohio to LA. Same freight cost whether we do one or five, since they can stack the trailers.

Given that for say a Ford, the diesel costs thousands more than the gas engines, I think one needs to do the math to determine which is better. For me, the gas engine F150 made much more sense; it would take quite a lot of towing to make up the price difference in the MPG difference.

Interested in buying a Trailex trailer?

I thought I would revive this thread for those of you who are looking at getting a trailer. Currently Trailex has $300 off plus a free upgrade to 13" aluminum wheels on their open bolted trailers.

I just spoke with Carl at Trailex and they are finishing up taking orders at Barrett-Jackson and will hopefully be shipping a bunch of trailers to the AZ/CA region soon. Perhaps we can take advantage of some bulk shipping??

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (it's my wife's) with the HEMI towing an open tralier. Chugs right along at 70-75MPH with no problem in "Tow" mode. Tow mode keeps it from kicking into 5th gear.

Jeep is supposedly offering the Mercedes diesel later in 2007 so we may trade to that for more torque, but more importantly better fuel mileage.
