I’d like to get some track prep recommendations for my 09 Cup260. I’m slowly but surely getting the track fever . I don’t use the car much on the road hence decided to optimize it for track.

I need to know what would be the optimum track setup.

So far I have :
Sticky tiers - Hoosier A6 205/45ZR16 & 245/40ZR17
V2 Arms from Inokinetic
Front Camber: -2.0
Front Toe: 0.02
Rear Camber: -2.2
Rear Toe: 0.25
Height about 17mm floor to frame on three corners and slightly higher on driver’s side .
Bilstein shocks with adjustable dampening and height

I have been briefly on the track and the car is very well balanced and has loads of grip. My main concern is the tiers rubbing against the liner under hard cornering. Ideally I wanted to lower the car a bit but I’m afraid the rubbing would be worse.

In my opinion you should spend more time optimizing the nut behind the wheel. But the easy baseline recommendations are:

1. You're not using the measurement points lotus recommends for measuring ride height, so it will be difficult to translate your measurements into something meaningful
- If you're worried about rubbing the fender liners you won't be lower than 125mm up front, measured at the factory identified locations

2. If you haven't gotten the car corner balanced, do that

3. Lotus has recommendations for the suspension, start with those (coil overs and roll bar)

4. On hoosiers you probably could have more camber on all corners (you likely won't get any more camber up front without further modification)

5. With no UOM on your toe measurements, I'd say you've got too much rear toe- either a little too much toe in or a lot too much toe out

Couldn't agree more with getting some help. I'm planing on getting some help from experienced racers.

We have some good alignment shops in town but know nothing about Lotus. They need me to tell them the settings I want and they will do it.

I did some research and found so much confusing info/ opinions. I just need recommended geometry settings

You found mixed opinion because

1. People are making alignment recommendations based off of things other than performance
2. There aren't many that really have the opportunity to try out many configurations, so they can only recommend whatever they believe they have
3. As you develop a driving technique you may eventually make alignment changes to suit yourself and the tracks you drive
4. modifications will drive different suspension settings

The facts are that humans have great ability to drive around poor suspension setup, which is why I recommended to drive it if you think it feels fine.

Since you're looking for a baseline, I don't think you can go wrong starting here:

Any specific recommendations for the damping settings on the Bilstein?

Throw them in a fire? Is that a damping setting? I dont think it matters much.
haha. agreed. on the track pack i thought the lotus reco for track was 8 up front, 7 in back, middle hole on the swaybar.

Curious which brake pads you are running for the track?

Did you do any thing for engine fuel and oil starvation on the track?

Pagid black front and rear. That what came from the factory and I'm sticking to them for now.

Did you do any thing for engine fuel and oil starvation on the track?
It's a factory Cup 260 car so I'm assuming it has the uprated full pump.
As for oil starvation I hope it's not an issue yet. I mean I'm still far from thrashing the car on the track.

the stock oil pan can cause loss of oil pressure on long turns with slick tires. the same is true for the gas tank with low fuel. i am not sure if newer gas tanks have baffles.

if you search you will see there is lot of treads on oil and gas starvation on the Track with race slick tires

09+ fuel tanks do not have the same issue of the baffles failing AFAIK

it seems that you have the stock rear toe links still installed.
Maybe you should switch them to aftermarket ones when using slicks.
No matter which manufakturer, they all are better than stock.

Those are the upgraded lotus ones. They are slightly better with the addition of the double shear bar and not so dangerous.

Super basic question here - are the Elise's (let's say basic model - touring and sports package) set up to be able to hit the track as is - or do these types of alignments etc need to occur?
* For clarity - not thinking from a true winning the race attitude - but more of say a weekend warrior that once in a while goes to the track and just have some fun going a bit faster without worrying about tickets etc?
I went to a Dirt Fish Rally Car corporate event for work recently and it was a ton of fun. Was thinking that it would be fun to get some specific driving training on a track (when I purchase an Elise) and have some fun taking some laps (as well as the training would make me a better driver I would assume).
Appreciate being able to ask a pretty neophyte question here - thx!

Hi

If you are not running slicks these are less of a issue. The rear Toe links should be done for street cars IMO. The gas issue can most likely be avoided by running over a half a tank of gas consistently. The oil pan issue i think and could be wrong is for people running slicks, keep in mind alot of engines have been blown by these issues.

Can someone answer my concern about the oil starvation : Does the OEM Accusump help, or I still need an oil plan ?

If you're just doing a couple weekends, not on slicks, I say have good pads, flush fluid, check your toe links, and have fun. After you've been a few times start doing some of that stuff.
