While doing a routine oil change today I noticed my transmission is drenched in fluid, appears to be coming from the passenger side but a metal collar on the drivers side output shaft appears to be deformed so I don’t know if that might actually be it. I’ve never done any transmission work on my car so I have no experience.

Probably a bad seal. My girlfriends mazda 3 had a similar issue. Metal shield bent from probably road debris and damaged the seal

Engine oil and transmission oil typically have distinctly different smells. Take a finger swab of the mess and compare that smell to your engine oil on the dipstick. You can loosen the transmission drain bolt and let just a little out to get a smell comparison.

If inconclusive, clean up the mess and drive it. Look for a new fresh trail.

My guess is engine oil. The transmission seals are typically robust for the low miles we typically put on these cars.
