STAR TRIP (So Cal) IS HAPPENING! July 25th
Yes, the "Star Trip" will be July 25th (Saturday)....
This one is worth it....place it on your calendar....NOW!
Get your spacesh...er..your Lotus ready for a roadtrip that is out of this world!:coolnana:
We'll do the same trip (Mount Pinos in Frazier Park), spectacular stars, Milky Way, Constellations, Nebulae, Star Clusters, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, different scopes, an optional stayover at the Flyin' J Motel at the base of the mountain and some great roads (Lockwood Valley, HWY33 to Ojai) Sunday morning!:shift:
A group of Lotus Elises/Exiges plan to drive to the best Lotus roads in Southern California, destination is Mount Pinos in Frazier Park. FIRST PICK-UP POINT IS LOTUS of THOUSAND OAKS at 2:30 PM SHARP!!
SECOND PICK-UP POINT is FLYING J truck stop in Frazier Park at 4PM SHARP!!!
We'll be stopping for fuel and supplies. Then we'll drive the mountain roads to the Chula Vista parking lot, 8,800 ft altitude well above the smog, haze and moisture. We'll picnic while the sun sets and as the stars appear, one by one.
There are dozens of telescopes set up by amateur astronomers, waiting for the best starry views in the state. The Milky way will be blazing in the sky overhead, and I'll point out the summer sky stars and constellations. I'll even supply the star charts and red filters for your flashlight! Through the telescopes, we'll see Saturn's rings, dazzling star clusters, wispy nebulae, and distant galaxies. Have you seen the Andromeda Galaxy...close-up? It's 2 million light years distant.
When you're tired of stargazing, you're ready for a treat. Driving down the road at night (top removed) with thousands of stars around your Lotus, your become a spaceship. An AMAZING VIEW, the closest you can get to space yet still on the ground!
Optional: there is a motel at the base of the mountain at the Freeway: Best Rest Inn. If you reserve a room, we'll have a breakfast Sunday morning and we'll continue some of the best Lotus roads toward home: Lockwood Valley Road and HWY 33 to Ojai for late lunch!
Bring VERY, VERY WARM clothes, in the mountains at night can be in the 40's F, even it's July! This trip is worth it for the driver AND a passenger!
Oh, don't forget to bring your binoculars too!
Here's more detail on the optional motel:
BEST REST INN, Lebec-Frazier
51541 North Peace Valley Road

A superb place to rest the night from stargazing and be fresh for the next day!
It's right next to the "Flying J" truck stop in Frazier.
