Vibration Through Clutch Pedal and Throwout Bearing

Hey friends,

I've been reading some of the recent threads about the clutch in our cars. Since new, my NA Evora has had a buzzy/vibrating clutch pedal that is felt between shifts. It can also be felt when driving and you put a bit of pressure on the pedal. It currently has 4,700 miles.

Is this related to the throwout bearing in some way? Is it normal?

Thanks!

Yup, my has always done it. TADTS!
Mines does this from time to time, and has since new in 2010. It just seems to be a characteristic of the gearbox.
Haven't noticed it on mine & it's a daily driver. Not sure if that's something they sorted out in the 13s or what. Don't know what year the OP's Evora is.
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Mine does it too. Did not do it when new. Only have 6200 on it now. The vibration increases in frequency with rpm. Think the throw out bearing is starting to go. Will have the dealer investigate after winter.

Mine has done it since brand new and never changed. Brgelise and anthonyseven, if you don't mind me asking, how many miles have you guys logged so far? I've logged 4,900 miles.

Thanks
 3.5 years (since new) and almost 17K miles, and I have never experienced anything but silky smooth clutch and T/O bearing action.
Its not uncommon on many vehicles to have that buzzy feel when changing, there is a mod that can soften or even remove that sensation and its called a clutch damper pipe

Interesting, I've never heard of this before. Wonder if anyone has experience with this on the Evoras?

My '10 Evora shows a little over 11,400 miles on the odometer. :shift:
Is the vibration generated by the flywheel? What is a clutch damper pipe exactly? I did a bit of searching online but not really understanding what it does.
Hello friends, just sharing some additional information I discovered regarding the vibration felt through the clutch pedal as described earlier in this post.

There is a spacer between the throwout bearing and the clutch pressure plate that is not to spec. It starts to rattle and gets a lot of play. The individual I spoke with experienced the exact same phenomenon as described here and ultimately had it repaired.

He explained that he saw the part when it came out of the car. It's a simple round collar but its not to spec. It starts to wear wrong and it starts to put uneven pressure on the throw out bearing where it hits the fingers of the pressure plate.
Thought that spacer problem was only on early models
My car was built on 8/31/2010 as a 2011 and not sure if it meets the definition of an early model.

I may ultimately decide to just let it be as the clutch has always operated normally. I'll see what Lotus says and then go from there.
2/2010 build and car has 12000+ miles. Will be following up with dealer to get done before spring. Thanks for update on this as it made me call again . I definitely want this big ticket item pursued before spring!. Car was purchased 7/31/2011 so I've got warranty time left as that is when clock was punched.

I've experienced this symptom in a number of cars, but fortunately not the Evora. When it happened with my '07 Carrera S, I had the dealer replace the throwout bearing. Didn't make one bit of a difference. I wasn't alone in my complaint, either, as several P car owners described the same on the Rennlist. Prevailing thought was that the dual mass flywheel was the cause. I eventually learned to live with it.

Thanks for the info. Concerned about that adapter though! If it does fail, it takes everything with it!
Seems that Lotus has gotten a bit tight about this repair. Just got off phone with Secor who spoke to Lotus. Lotus says no way! I made them note this in my account in case it fails post warranty so I have recourse. I will also call Lotus now to discuss directly.
I drove with the service tech today and he acknowledged the vibration. He and I spoke about the likely cause following the drive - not need to go into detail as it was essentially the same throwout bearing, flywheel "reasons" that have been discussed here.

The tech didn't believe that it would lead to any major failure in the near future or possibly even long-term. And given what I have read here from a couple of others with twice as many miles logged + track days with no failure to date, I decided that I would live with it for now.

However, the tech did tell me that he would help me pursue with Lotus if that is what I wanted to do. Given I have no desire for my pristine car to be disassembled :) and I have over half my warranty left, I again will just let it be for now.
