Was a portion of "Deal's Gap"/"The Dragon" on fire on thursday (4/17/08)?

I know we've got some locals aboard here, Dragonrider, anyone else know what's going on?

foxnews said:
GATLINBURN, Tenn.A fire blazing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was started by a motorcycle crash.

National Park Service spokesman Bob Miller said the fire had grown to about 10 acres by Wednesday night and would expand further Thursday while firefighters worked to contain it.

It began when a rider crashed his motorcycle on U.S. 129 in a winding area known as "the Dragon."

Miller said the steep and rocky terrain prevents firefighters from making a direct attack on the fire. They were working to contain it between the highway and the Topoco power line.

Officials said the motorcyclist walked away from the crash.

Yes, there is a portion known as The Whip (or what we call the Wee-ha corners which is what we yell as we zip through them) that is on fire. A Suzuki GSX-R 600/750 (?) went down, burst the tank, and burned into literally a few pieces of slag metal. It was only that a few people saw it burning that you could even tell what it was. The Rider was okay, but the fuel went into a ditch full of dry leaves and it went from there. It's still burning as far as I know, but is controlled and is apparently not affecting much of the road itself. They are letting this work as a controlled/natural burn. No worries, but some cool pics from Darryl (Killboy).

This is the link from the East Tn Riders (the motorcycle forum based in/around this area) where the best info and pics are located.
