I need a bit of help. I have been looking for a water pump for a 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo.
So far I have hit a brick wall. Mine is damaged.
I am considering putting on a non turbo pump and adding a vacuum pump to the car.

Has anyone done this before? If so, can you help?

What pump did you use?
Where did you mount it?
What trouble will I run into when I fit the belts?

Thank you, Jim

Jim,

The later Esprits with power steering eliminated the engine-driven vacuum pump, putting the power steering pump there instead. But they got away with it because the later power brakes/ ABS were electric-hydraulic, and the old vacuum-hog power brake servo was eliminate. All the small electric vacuum pump had to handle was the HVAC control dampers.

The car you're working on still has the vacuum operated power brakes, and I don't think the later electric vacuum pump will suffice.

Stainless Steel Brakes dot com sells an electric vacuum pump that looks very much like the Esprit's engine-driven GM pump attached to an electric motor (see attached JPEG). It's intended to provide power brake vacuum to a large trailer/camper, back where you probably wouldn't be able to hear it run. I wonder if it would be intrusive in a car? I dunno.

I just tried to visit SSB's website, and it's closed for maintenance. Try an email or phone call instead.

Have you tried Lotusbits in the UK?
Lotus Esprit Engine Parts
Scroll down to "Cooling".

Lotusbits is not good about returning emails. It's best to pick up a phone and call. Keep time zones in mind.

Good luck

If the housing can be repaired that be be your quickest option. It may also be the cheapest option. Call JAE and see what the availability and price is for the water pump. Make sure you tell them you don't have a rebuildable core. Sit down when you make that call.
