Would someone kindly tell me what color blue this is?

http://www.lotusfury.com/pix/am10.jpg

I've pretty much gathered that this site has two blues:
http://www.lotusfury.com/pix.php

The top section (superb side view to cockpit) is a different color than the middle section (Elise side view to Elise front and side view 2).

Can anyone tell me what the top section color is?

I also noticed they added a Lazer blue section to the color page. Is that just a hacked version of the hard top to make looking into the car easier? http://www.elisetalk.com/lazer_blue.html I saw the post of the gullwing hardtop and gotta admit that it looks mighty trick! Also, are the hardtops between the S1 and the S2 different? In some pictures, it looks like the softtop and hardtop extends over the rear area. In the LA show pictures, it looks like the top is just a rectangular section. Then I went to http://www.elise-shop.com/en-us/dept_4.html and they're mentioning that the original hardtop wears a certain area on the body work.

I don't know if I should cancel the hardtop option and get the gullwing one :)

Chester

The color in that first link is a European color choice called Cobalt Blue, a dark metallic blue close to Nightfall Blue.

Thanks for the response, but it really looks like

http://www.lotusfury.com/pix/ascot2.jpg
and
http://www.lotusfury.com/pix/am12.jpg

are different...Or is it just the weather (cloudy vs. sunny)?

I really want the color of my car to look like this:
http://www.lotusfury.com/pix/am10.jpg

If I can get that, I'll be happy...so is it Nightfall or Magnetic?

Thanks,
Chester

Wishing the Elise would be here sooner to take to VIR in March....I guess I'll have to settle for taking the M3

all those are of the euro demo, which was Cobalt.

Magnetic Blue is the closest to looking like the one that you say you want.

Nightfall is darker than the darkest looking pics of Cobalt.

All three of those links you posted are Cobalt Blue. They're not Magnetic Blue. Magnetic is brighter with a slight touch of purple to it. Cobalt is closest to the Nighfall Blue that we're gonna get, your standard, metallic dark blue.

Aaaahhh!!! Two people telling me two different things! atyclb saying magnetic blue is the closest and that nightfall is darker than the darker pic of cobalt. Then mopalak saying that nightfall is the closest match. Ugh. What I didn't like about the pics of Magnetic was the reddish/purplish hue.

Anyone seen the colors in person?

TIA,
Chester

The only one I've seen in person was Cobalt when the demonstrator came through Atlanta. I asked Clyde about it specificly and he said that it was very close to the Nightfall Blue we're getting. In pictures, Magnetic has always looked to me like a brighter, almost electric blue.

That picture shows the official S2 show car when it was introduced in 2000.

It has the Gull-wing hardtop that Lotus never built. The top on this car was never functional, but just a mock-up.

Also, are the hardtops between the S1 and the S2 different?
Yes, very..

To fit the S1 hardtop you have to remove the roll-bar cover and the hardtop then extends from the top of the window all the way to the butresses at the back as one complete item.

On the S2 the official Lotus top 'slots in' between the window edge and the roll-bar cover, so it's much smaller when not in use (but still can't fit in the car's storage areas...)

Aftermarket S2 hardtops usually follow the S1 method and also replace the roll-bar cover, as this allows older S2's to use the hardtop as well without modifications.

The Lotus hardtop only fits newer S2's or modiffied old S2's (which then also need a new 'short' softtop as the modifications make fitting the old softtop impossible)

Bye, Arno.

Arno, is the rollbar cover on US-spec cars removable? Do you have any pics with it removed? Is it "raw" or more "presentable"? (in other words, is it a way to make the car look just a little bit different when you know you won't be needing a top at all?

Slacy,
looking at the S2 parts manual, it doesn't appear to have a removeable cover. It seems to integrated into the window frame.

Unlike the S1 it is not supposed to be removed on the S2.

You can take it off of course, but it won't look pretty and you lose things like the central brake light which is attached to the cover.

On the S1 you could also take out the rear window in this case and just keep the 'bare' rollbar. (useful in winter as the warm air from the engine gets pushed back into the passenger compartiment that way..)

This is not possible on the S2 as the rear window is glued in place. The window surround is also glued to the rollbar.

The option of taking out the rear window was largely unknown to most customers and because the S1 rear window is basically 'clamped' in place it tends to rattle a lot more.

So for the S2 they dropped that option and glued everything in place.

Bye, Arno.
