Maybe something wrong with Lotus not being able to allocate cars to them.
What Happened to Desert European?
I got a phone call from Austin Lewis @ Desert European this morning, telling me that Desert European will not be able to sell Elise until LATE NEXT YEAR, so he would like to pay my deposit back to my credit card.
DOH!!!!
What's wrong with this dealership??

edit - After reading other members' replies that there are actually people getting the car, I am suspecting if I just misunderstood Austin telling me he will not be able to sell "me" car until late next year. Let me contact Austin for accurate info.

What? Are you sure you didn't misunderstand him talking just about your car?
I certainly hope there is just some misunderstanding.

Edit: It's a little to late tonight to get any information but I gotta say this is really weird. I just talked to Austin a couple of days ago and he apologied for the delays and mentioned that he was as disappointed as I was. He also confirmed that my car, which I already ordered, would arrive toward the end of the year.
I don't know what to make of all this.

They have begun delivering cars. I know of at least one person who picked up an Elise from DE. In fact he picked it up last week and drove to Monterey.

If it was the case, I am willing to wait extra half year, because most people who get cars now have waited 2-3+ years.
As long as I get my car @ MSRP after my college graduation, I will be fine. (Even though that will bother me alot..)
Let me call him up tomorrow, and hear what is the "true" reason of cancelling my reservation.

why didn't Austin ask me if I was willing to wait?
He should have known that I am willing to wait more since when he told me that he will get my elise delivered in June next year(which is the month I graduate), i told him that i couldn't trust him for that..
Instead, I told him that i would be expecting my car to be delivered around Sept. next year because I had already heard enough complains regarding ongoing delays.
However when he returned me the reservation form along with the credit card receipt, he kindly hand-wrote "CAR FOR JUNE DEL 05 @ MSRP," and it was not what I asked him to do.
Why didn't (or couldn't) Austin ask me at first if I was willing to wait more? Without giving me an alternative, he was pretty much like.."sorry, but you got no chance. I must cancel your reservation."
Hope it's all because of my misunderstanding....

Maybe "MSRP" is the magic word here. I wasn't aware that Desert Euro was selling any cars at MSRP. It could well be that they have a list of 120+ "Premium" deposits so they won't be selling you one at MSRP for years.
I expect Austin and Pat will come in Monday to a full voicemail box.
If you speak truth, I will have to dig up my scrap of paper with Gary Hagen's cellphone number on it.
