What is the significances of nearly every Lotus model name starting with an "E"-, e.g. Eleven, Esprit, Elise, Elan, Exige, Eclat, Eagle, Excel, Elite, Etna? Most the others are a number.

Just curious!!!

If you do search and find the answer, can you post here? I'm a bit curious now that you brought it up but not curious enough search. It's one of those "if it's in the New Posts section I'll read" kinda things.

I think the whole "E" thing is purely coincidence. I mean, what kind of lame company would purposefully name every product with words starting with the same letter? That's as idiotic as trying to sell a car with no amenities. Sheesh.

While this isn't a perfect analogy, your reaction reminded me of something I read while searching for some tech answer once.

I was getting some weird result on my windows box so I googled the terms hoping to find a fix. The first page I came to was an exact match on the question end. But rather than containing the answer, all the replies were just bashing the guy for not using google to look it up himself.

The funny thing is that it's actually counterproductive to reply like that. The internet works best the more "hits" and the fewer "unproductive crap" threads that it contains. So when a person is looking for an answer, they have to weed through all the threads that look like hits but are really just discussions about how the OP didn't do enough research on his/her own.

Every time someone takes a second to just say "here's the answer...", that's one more likely hit that someone who IS doing his own research will benefit from.

Of course, if the answer's long winded or has been boring people to death with reposts, that gets old too.

But you know, all these posts which contain nothing but people ranting about how you should (or shouldn't) do your own research end up in the archives too. So a year from now, someone who is ligitimately doing it "your way" will run across this useless thread and think "gee, searching sucks, maybe I'll just ask"

the cycle never ends.

Of course I am!

Bottom line, this question has been asked many times before, and the answer is just as elusive as that of the question, "Why did Chapman choose the name 'Lotus?'"

Them brits are krazy.
Brit=British=Britney Spears...it is starting to make sense...

The only difference is that the people at Lotus continue to name the model's starting with "E" after Chapman has long been gone. So it could not be elusive as why Chapman named his company Lotus. So why is Lotus continuing to do it? Is it rote, corporate legacy ?. Could be the normal company culture of that the way it has always been done, but nobody can tell you why they are doing.

Well, the same folk that started the name "Lotus" are just as dead as the folk who started using the letter "E." NOW it is a tradition, but back then perhaps there was some significance. Let me know when you find the answers to that which you seek.

Every Lotus model's name starts with an E because that's what Henry Ford wanted. Everyone knows that Ford owns Lotus.
