BRG. Lotus picked this color when they debuted the S1 at the Berlin Autoshow in 1996.

SY looks great. However, BRG is CLEARLY the true color of any brit sports car... No contest and is undebatable. Sorry guys:shrug:

... and no my Elise is not BRG:rolleyes: ...

I always thought it was british racing green with a bit of yellow stripe or trim. Dunno.

not a big fan of SY, but it does seem to be THE LOOK of the federal Elise. It's the most common color, so that makes sense to me.
Damn...hate to agree. Just that there are so damn many of them. Went to a Lotus track day and I had the only KG. 5 SY!:wallbang:

Someone here will have more specific knowlege, but at one time in racing each country used a specific color. Italy-red, England-British racing green, USA-white, I think?

Who can help us out?
Italian Racing Red

British Racing Green

French Racing Blue

German Racing White

...not sure if america has racing colours?#

Oops.......just read the rest of the thread and saw the winkpedia link..........i was right though with the colours ;)

The only British car that should be green is a Range Rover.

A proper Ferrari is red.

A proper Porsche is silver.

A proper Rolls is two toned. (Pick your colors.)

The proper color for a Lotus is yellow.

God knows why I drive a red Lotus.

There is only ONE official color for British sports cars:

Richard Hammond calling Colin Chapman a villain, how rude!

There have been a number of special editions in the UK based on previous lotus racing colours:
Type 72 (John Player Specials colours - my favourite  ):

Type 23 (White with green stripes):

Type 25 (BRG with yellow stripes):

Type 49, series 1 (red, white and gold):

Type 49, series 2 (red, white and gold):

Type 99 - yellow shown above in a previous post.

In the UK, the most popular colours for the early series 1 cars were BRG, Norfolk Mustard and Azure Blue (i'm trying to find my launch brochure to see what colours were used in there, but I seem to have lost it :( ), however with series 2 cars, there is no particular colour that could be regarded as the signature colour...

Lotus also did a special edition Elise to celebrate 50 years of Lotus, I believe these were all BRG with gold wheels http://www.lotus-elise.nl/Buyers_Guide/Differences/Elise_50anni.jpg , so I guess rather predictably BRG is the signature Lotus colour...

Regarding the ORIGINAL question as to which is the " signature Elise color" I'd have to answer CO.
Every single magazine ad, brochure, even a Canon EOS catalog have the Elise in Chrome Orange.

So, CO is not the Lotus signature color but it's definitely the Fed Elise signature color.
+1 I'd have to agree - Chrome Orange is the color that you see in all the magazines and the color that the public sees the most. I'm not so sure that I'm happy about this - I thought Orange was going to be an unusual color (although I got it to be visible to SUV drivers).

British Racing Green was the color for early racing cars (before the various sponsor colors). My early '60s Lotus 20 Formula Junior was BRG with the traditional white number circles as that was the only reasonable color scheme.

Lotus Yellow was the color for street cars back in the '60s and '70s (this coming from someone with an orange/white Elan). I always wanted a "Lotus Yellow" Lotus.

Mine is BRP (all sports cars MUST be red  ) but BRG is the true Lotus color (or is that colour?) with yellow stripes. Has to be. Let's ask Jim Clark.
