This a view from behind the radiator inlet grille.

There is a cavity that is in the shape of a rectangle that is about 12" long located on either side of the crash structure. They are close to the
air inlet duct that service the foot wells.

What is the purpose of this cavity? It does not lead to anything from what I can tell. I was thinking of taping over it because it is trapping air for no purpose.

I think that tray is molded in to catch the coolant that leaks out when the plastic radiator tanks leak.;)

I was looking at that area while replacing my radiator..... I don't think it is an intentional duct.

It's hard for me to tell from the picture, but that's the location of the driving light bracket on my car. I don't have the lights, but I still have the bracket and wiring in that spot.

Does it go all the way back to A/C evaporator in your HVAC unit? That could be for the condensate.
The shaft terminates at the end. It does not exit anywhere that I can tell.

The actual channel in the picture is only visible from the bottom-side. In your picture the roof of the channel is visible I think. (closest to foot well inlet vents).
