Which dealers have received a "gift" from Lotus?

I thought I'd start this thread to see if any other dealers have been as lucky as Overseas Motors. As stated on other threads, they have received a storm titanium elise with red interior which Lotus called and asked them if they wanted an extra car. They say they did not order the car, it is not there demo nor a customer car. So, it's up for grabs. I didn't ask how much. Anyway, I was told this won't affect their allocation as this was an "extra" car. I asked if they were expecting any other "extra" cars and he said no. I hope not or this just moves me further down the list. Until this point, I felt that they were being honest but just didn't have a lot of information. Now I wonder about that.

I have a friend who is not on the list and they called him right away to tell him about the car but never called me and I doubt any other deposit holders.

That was the worst post ever

Can anyone decipher that post for me? Is that guy 14 or something?
Quite an example of stream of conciousness there fred:)- congrats on the car. I would imaging that combo to be strikingly beautiful. Enjoy.

He also affirmed that the ST Elise did not displace anyone on the list; there were no "cuts in line."
That couldn't be further from the truth. That 'extra' car displaced EVERYONE on the list. Lotus took the time to build it; therefore, it displaced me and you.

That car is a clone of the color combo that I ordered. So when the 'extra' car showed up, why didn't they look for people on the list with that color combo, and ship it to the person on the list that has been waiting the longest?

JD, Matheny called me on Friday to let me know that their demo finally came in and I was so happy that I already have a deal on a car because they are telling me now that my #51 spot wouldn't be delivered till the second semester of next year if it continues like right now. That was just too damn long!

Well, I may have contributed to the sale of the "extra" Elise at Overseas Motors. While visiting the new arrival today with my 19 year old son, I noticed two guys who had pulled up in a very sweet, late model 911 Turbo inspecting the storm titanium wonder-machine.
:D

This thing is bizarre! this is at least the third instance where people post about other people who endup showing up in here! Elisetalk must be reaching a critical level where most everyone who has a deposit or is interested in the Elise post or lurk around in here. Good job Randy!
Life is strange. It appears from these interlinked posts that the new Overseas customer traded his 911 monster for the lithe ST Elise this afternoon. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I envy you so much right now!

My son, who was somewhat non-plussed by the Elise in the "flesh" this afternoon, called me a little while ago to exclaim excitedly that he had seen the car zipping through the streets of North Dallas. He may yet convert. Meanwhile, I have my red LSS-equipped gem on order at Overseas, and I hope to get it before Christmas.

If we could just get a DEMO in DALLAS!

So who are you mad at? Lotus or Overseas? You are not on the list at Overseas, so did you expect them to call dealer in the country to find you and offer you the car at MSRP? Did you expect them to refuse the car, especially when they haven't even received their demo or any customer cars? Did you not see the post from the other dealer had been offered and extra car, but did not get it because Lotus screwed up? Heck, I have heard there may be an "extra" Aztec Bronze car that may be coming in. Do you really believe that a dealer slipped in an extra AZTEC BRONZE order on a whim? That may have been built by Lotus just to get the color over here and on the road.

I know you are anxious for your car, so am I. I hear there may be 2 Aubergine cars in port. How many do you think are on order, nobody seems to like it on here. I know at least one is not my car because it has not hardtop. But even if it was my exact configuration, it is NOT my car, shouldn't be my car, will never be my car, because it is not coming to my dealership!

If I thought my dealership was pushing my order down, I would be mad as hell. I don't think they are. I think I am waiting for my car because I never was at the top of the list, and maybe they are not getting a large allocation. They have gotten ONE car, LOA has gotten SIX. Now if my dealer had gotten 6 cars and was telling me that my car was still months away, and by then they had gotten 20 cars, I probably would walk from the car and dealership on principle.

Some of you have a lot of pent up anger, I could not live my life that way. If it doesn't cause you to be able change anything, it serves no purpose but to cause you to die younger.

Honestly Racer, I'm mad at you, for being such a jerk. You may go around without any 'pent up anger', but you sure are good at dishing it out to others.

I don't know why you are backing up Overseas with such passion.

Nor do I understand why you are attacking me for stating the facts.

No matter how much you try to justify it, it takes time to build the cars, and 'extra' cars push others out.
I think this entire thread can be answered with simplicity and in one word:

NONE
So Dimmit didn't sell you your car and Overseas sold you someone elses car?

Errrr.
It's not exactly pent-up anger if we spew it out all over the place. Elisetalk actually is a therapeutic release. And believe it or not, some of us can think about larger issues and still continue to live our lives.

oooooh and just think...when it is sold to someone ELSE she will be on you constantly until another shows up! :D

that is where my car will go...to someone ELiSE

Don't do that. Then they'll just profit by selling your car on eBay. Believe me, I learned the hard way! ;)

Transio,

I think Prestige is different dealership than almost all of the others. You got royally screwed by them, there is no doubt about that, but at least later and still now they are telling the customer a somewhat straight but sordid truth that they will sell all their cars at market prices. I for one feel good about their straight forward answer to me as that sealed the deal and I went elsewere. I think all the others are selling the majority of their cars to list holders at MSRP and a few cars at market prices when they have drop outs, no harm no faul IMO.

I don't know about the other dealers, but my deposit was non-refundable once I placed my order with specifics.

Dropping out now would put me out 2 years 7 months, and $2000.00

That may be true, but I think that ANY dealer would keep list drop-offs and sell them at a profit. It would just be silly for them not to. My point was that if someone isn't happy with his dealer, he shouldn't drop off the list. That would only be to the dealer's benefit. Instead, the individual should press the dealer to meet its legal obligations to him.
Genjuro,

I apologize for upsetting you, and my post wasn't really directed at you, but it triggered my response.

I am just tired of people bashing dealers. Implying or stating that they are lying, cheating, unethical, mean people. Bursting forth with conjecture. Facts contrary to their conjecture is ignored.

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at Lotus. With no information, we all made deposits, thinking that a low number at the dealer would mean we would get an early delivery. It's not happening that way. Some dealers are not giving out much information that Lotus has provided. Maybe it is because the information they gotten in the past proved unreliable. (Anybody remember the April launch date?). Long after many made deposits, we have found out that not all dealers will get the same allocation. And just because you were in the first thirty at your dealer doesn't mean you are getting a car anytime soon. One article quoting English indicated allocations would vary from 12-140. How would you feel if you were nymber 13 at that dealer that got 12 in the first model year? Do you think the dealer likes that? NO. Now should that dealer tell his clients, yeah they should.

IF I get real evidence that my dealer (Overseas) then I will get mad and do something about it. Right, all the evidence points to it was an extra car offered to them by Lotus (another trusted dealer indicated he had been offered and extra car) or that maybe they ordered a car for themselves, when a couple of people in the top 10 dropped down or out of the list because they wanted LSD. No other evidence exists, that I am aware of. If someone has some PM me.

It is no more ethical of some of you to accuse dealer of things you have no objective evidence, than it it would for the dealer to do the things they have been accused of.

I am done with threads that CONJECTURE about the lack of ethics of some dealers. It is wrong and some just don't see it.

Happy Motoring!
