^^^ That only works for the rare Esprits with the three-speed automatics...

Go look at Ebay again, you'll probably find one...

After putting in my cool Klingon bat'leth steering wheel (to the rancorous applause of many ), maybe my next trick will be putting a TurboHydromatic 400 in my Esprit :D

Seriously - has anyone actually put an automatic in an Esprit? I'm pretty sure the factory never did.

You are correct, the factory never put an automatic into any Esprits. I did toy with the idea and one possablity is to do it the way it was done in the Delorean. Renault has a bolt-in 3 speed auto that was used in the Delorean. It would take some major modification to get it in a Lotus but the biggest reason you would not do it is that it just wouldn't last handling all of the power. In the Delorean max power is 130 HP.

A Turbo-Hydramatic 400 is a great muscle car trans, heavier duty and preferred over the Turbo-Hydramatic 350. Due to its north/south design, it won't work though. A Turbo-Hydramatic 425 transaxle as used in older front wheel drive Toronados and Eldorados might though. It did for the Vector W8 :)
