When I pay $80/m or more for Comcast why do I still have to watch commercials at least 25% of the time; endless loop - :thwack:

Another awful commercial is the 1-800-cash-now rowboat commercial.

It states that they are 'here to help you in your time of need.'

Freeze it toward the end - you will read that their interest rate is 99.25%. Yes, 99.25%.

I would be 99.25% smarter if I could take a baseball bat to my Plasma TV. I have tried to cut down on it over the years. No network news for many months, all garbage and lies. (NETWORK - one of my favorite all-time movies). Don't care about Denise Richard's brats either.

These are good choices. I thought these commercials were put out by the folks selling TiVo and other Digital Video Recorders.
FreeCreditReport strikes great merit as their very name is a shameless lie.
JG Wentworth shines as an example of willingness to cheat and take advantage of the unintelligent masses.
Encite, and all ED ads, rate highly due to their habit of placing these ads in front of your minor children during family TV time. "Dad, what is that about?"

The Brinks home security commercials.

When the whole family turns into blithering saps when the alarm goes off, the would-be burglar runs away, and the family is saved by a comforting voice on the phone from a call-center 1500 miles away.

Oh yeah - there are many. I know most have not seen the Whiskas commercials with the henpeck 'cat' husband but it is the most demeaning crap I have ever witnessed.

When the husband propped up at the end of the sofa realizes he doesn't get a treat, he turns his back and starts pouting. Then he trots off.

If you notice, just about every commercial in the USA portrays the women as smart and witty; the husband is just a dumb dullard lucky enough to have found her.

Take a long look next time at each commercial. Women are barely, if ever, seen as idiots - always men.

Canadian TV has taken it to the next level.

I know this was rhetorical but it's just a silly question. It's like wondering why people pay for DVDs when they've already bought the DVD player. Cable service is the DVD player and the shows (paid for by commercials) are the DVDs.

Speaking of DVDs, why aren't people rejecting this practice of putting commercials at the beginning? It's fine when you rent or borrow one but if you own a DVD, you should be able to pop it in and go.

PS: All commercials suck...morally. They're not designed to get a name out there or inform the public. They're way past that. They know the real money is in shaping public opinion. Convincing people they need/want something.

When you actually want something, it's hard work figuring out what the options are. Where to look at them? What are the differences? etc. You have to do research on the web, call around, buy books, whatever. But in the meantime, you know exactly where to go to get unhealthy tasteless food and sugary beverages. You just won't remember how urgently you need it until the next 2 minute break.

Prescription Drug Commercials???

What puzzles me are the commercials for what are drugs only available by prescription. Do they really expect me to ask for a particular drug by name? "My gosh, doc, wouldn't Claritin be the best medication for this?"
Of course, there is the mildly amusing, million-miles-an-hour disclaimer about side effects. Often, these include dozens of symptoms far worse than one they are reputed to cure - "may cause spontaneous combustion"...

Between prescription drugs and other products that the average consumer is not likely to buy directly - Intel chips for one - I guess they're just pressing for name recognition. I understand that I can choose between an Intel and an AMD chip, but I'm not likely to just buy the processor.

every commercial medium, every entertainment medium has the male and females portrayed this way.
if you depict a female in a demeaning way, you have special interest groups boycotting your products.
depict the man in a demeaning way and no one really cares...its "funny."
(only if its a white man though)
another thing....how many times have u seen a woman strike a man in a tv show or movie and its supposed to be funny??

not surprising though....many men wouldnt buy a pack of sugarfree chewing gum without asking their wifes permission.

I also like the free credit report ones.

I hate the idiots singing about Viagra---even if they all took it, NONE of the would f**king sing about it let alone talk about it. Whoever wrote that one was a 'tard.

Hmmm. Don't have cable, so the only thing overly advertised on network is cable (waste of money and not much to watch) and the DAMN CELL PHONE COMPANIES. Since when did talking constantly on a phone become a lifestyle? I also don't have a personal cell. My wife and I share a pay as you go phone in which we barely use the 16 bucks a month's time I put on it!

Since I don't have cable and I'm not hooked into the cult of cell phone, any commercials dealing with these 2 things drive me nuts. And yes, both of these are about 50% of advertising in primetime.
