For anyone running in the Street Category this year, a friend of mine just pointed out this rule to me:

2014 Rules, 13.3.C.1: "Any tire which is OE on a car eligible for Street Category may be used on a car in Regional Solo events."

That means the stock Yokos are legal in Street.

I normally run in a local Tire index (PAX class) which has its own treadwear rules, so I'm not planning to exercise the advantage of using the Yokos, but I thought I would post it up here for others.

The question is even with the lower tread wear rating are they as good as the toyos?

Not really. The OP left out/changed a word:

"C. Other
1. Any tire which is OE on a car eligible for Street Category may be
used on that car in Regional Solo® events. OE tires must meet
all requirements of Section 13.3 to be eligible for National Solo®
events."

Has to be OE *on that car*.

And, it is for regional events, so who cares:).
