Just browsing through some pics of different planes that I want the wife to paint for me, I thought i'd make a thread like this to discuss different planes. I have always loved the f-14, just so bad ass.

Hard decision since I've loved the f-22 since it came out:

As for heli's...I've always loved the comanche, it just looks so futuristic and stealthly.

(I've always wanted to be a pilot and wanna shoot myself in the foot every time I see something fly over the house. I wish I would have gone to the air force academy.)

I know there are quite a few pilots here, what is your favorite aircraft?

Definitely SR-71 Blackbird. After seeing one in person on Tinker AFB it was done. No other aircraft will do.

Though flying on an AWACS was AWESOME... it does not compare to the Blackbird.

SR71 without a doubt but the A10 comes a close second. There is no other aircraft that is designed around a bigass machine cannon.

Tank killer is pretty awesome too. I remember those things flying around being so quiet.

The Ercoupe that I had down to the last 6-32 screw.
Whan finished it was IFR capable and legal.
The jet Jockies would usually take a walkaround when we parked it.
I had a lot of great conversations from it.
Also got a lot of "say your type again?" from center.
I guess it was a bit like the Elise in that respect.

How about some old school prop planes?...

The P-38 Lightning from WWII for fire power and speed.

The DeHavilland Beaver for rugged utility.

And the kit-built Lancair Legacy for sports-car-like performance.

Surely this is the plane equivalent of a Lotus?

Agile, fast (but not a jet which is the equivalent of a supercar), quite beautiful, and British!

Absolutely gorgeous planes, and the Merlin engine is operatic.

Modern plane choice is pretty easy for me: F16.

Same here - but I was not even close to qualifying (wear glasses).

I did work as a HUD firmware team engineer for F14-D. One of my most amazing work moments - going to the flight line for the F14-D HUD trials at Long Island, New York circa 1987.

No photos allowed (secure Government location) but got to see the 'my' HUD perform in real time. Nothing like seeing an F14 taking off with pulse rings in the exhaust or doing touch/go landings with extreme precision. And the slow sweep of the wings in flight - the pure definition of graceful firepower.

I got to sit in the cockpit of the prototype chassis and was surprised to see how hard the seats were.

<sigh> I'd sell my Esprit for a ride in an F14
